Opinions wanted- 2600k to 2700k

I have the chance to buy a 2700k for $230 on my local craigslist. I'm currently have a 2600k I'm sure I could sell for at the very least $200, if not $230. Would it actually be worth the hassle taking taking my system down and replacing the 2600 with the 2700 with it costing me no more than $30 cash out of pocket? I've had my 2600k OC'ed as high as 4.5ghz, but I doubt it was maxed out yet as I got 4.5ghz with only 1.35 volts

^ Agreed. I switched from an i3 to an i7 2600 and don't really notice any difference, but then again I only play games and don't video transcode and all that crap, but playing games like BF3 and GTA IV, I honestly don't notice any performance increase.

by what the ad says, it seems to be a brand new unused chip. He claims to have bought a incompatable chip for his computer. I know, it don't sound likely, but it was a deal just like this that I got my Q9650 though. I never had a complaint with it.

I wouldn't expect any performance increase from doing it. It would mostly be for monetary value of the 2700k basically traded off for my 2600k

If you have a rig that is as cluttered as mines, I would just buy the chip and try to sell at a higher price somewhere else as I think you could make a small profit out of it. But if you don't have a cluttered rig, then by all means buy it and stick it in your system. I was in the same situation like you that I couldn't pass up the 2600, so I just bought it.

Well, the 3570k is a quad no HT.
2600k is a quad with HT (8 vs. 4 threads).

4.5ghz at 1.35v is not impressive for a 2600k.
2700k's should be a little better silicon and might be able to get a higher overclock ceiling than your 2600k.

That is the only reason it would/might be worth it.

thats because you're video card limited, not CPU. you have a low end GPU.

I should update my sig. I was using a GTX460, but just sold it. I also used a 6970 but no increase in performance.

Or a i7-3770K/3770, either way the 3rd generation i processors offer PCI express 3.0 which is a good thing i think,...

Don't upgrade, the 2700k is just a higher binned chip with no real performance gains.

For 30 bucks id do it just 4 fun provided u can sell your i7 for the amount u want or can get. Although id b pisssed if i couldnt get 4.5@ 1.35v.

This is the reason why I got a SB-E.

Person with SB and a 2600k: "I want to upgrade... but there is nothing faster for 1155!!"
Person with SB-E and a 3820: "I want to upgrade... hey, I can brake the bank and get a 6-core Intel chip and I already have PCI-E 3.0, twice as many PCI-E lanes, twice as many dimm slots, and my CPU already supports native DDR3-1600."

Not too bash anyone who has a SB chip, but SB-E has much more room for upgrade for anyone who thinks they're going to go beyond needing what SB has to offer, because you wouldn't run into this issue with SB-E. I figured I should just point this out since everyone seems to bash X79 until they need to upgrade.

The more I think about it, I think I agree. There wouldn't be any performance boost as I'd run the 2700 at the same speeds I'm running my 2600 at. The only thing that might make it worth it is the extra value the 2700k has over the 2600k, which is minimal in my opinion.

I do crunch with this computer, so I benefit from the HT of the 2600k. If I was to upgrade and stay with 1155 socket, at the very least I would get a 3770.
