Looking for the super slim style of laptop for my next one. Battery life is really important, and that is why I am going with these as they seem to have the best overall battery life out there.

Price range ... under $1000, but hopefully as close to 6-700 as possible. If I could get a backlit keyboard that would be amazing :toast:

What I am looking at ...

Toshiba Portege - 8 hour battery life, USB 3.0
Apple Macbook Air - 7 hours battery life
ASUS Zenbook - 7 hours battery life
HP Folio - 9 hours battery life

What do y'all think?

are they going to be as powerful as an I3/5 and get the same long battery life?

Closer to an i3 on the CPU end, faster GPU, same TDP so same battery life.

I would wait for the IVB Macbook Air if you like Macs, otherwise the extra iGPU performance won't help you for what you want to use the laptop for. So I would lean towards an Intel solution. The i5 typically hits that performance/power consumption sweet spot. I have a 13" Macbook Pro for work with an i5 and I love it. Does everything great except games (except Minecraft) and during normal usage I get between 6 and 7 hours of battery life.

In effect, on the CPU end it -may- match an i3, or will perform just below, but you will save money overall, it will still do what you need, and with GPU acceleration on, depending on your web browser and what websites you visit, web browsing may be
faster.

Oh and if you ever decide to play a game you can at least know it will run. Lol
