7850 is slower it would have to be overclocked significantly to match the stock performance of a 570 or a 480 both of which can overclock decently, 7870 is a better choice for the newer cards, but not likely to be anywhere near as cheap.

IMO it's worth it to wait for the rest of the Nvidia line up. The 660 may be the card you need or at least it may force AMD to lower the price of the 7870.

GTX 480 is probably the best bang-for-buck GPU deal as it stands today. The 5xx series is great but it is still overpriced. You also get 250MB more VRAM on the 480. Fairly high TDP compared to newer cards and does run hotter but just turn up the fan speed. Sure can't hear it while gaming. Though I suppose the cost of power could be worth considering depending on how much it costs in your area.

Though, yeah, waiting for the lower-end Kepler cards makes sense too if you can.

Unfortunately there's a total mess with GPUs at 200-300$ level. Newegg has the EVGA 480 at 250$, another EVGA 560Ti 448 core for 240$ after MIR and the cheapest 570 at around 280$ after MIR. Now these three perform like this with small differences 570 - 480 - 560Ti 448. Out of the box the 570 is the best, the 480 is hotter and draws more power but has more VRAM, the 560Ti 448 is a salvage part for the 570 with good overclocking headroom. AMD has the following ofefrs around the same performance: What's left of the 6970 stock is sold at 380$. The 7870 is on average 5% over the 570 but with good overclocking potential and comes at 360$. The 7850 is around 10% below the 570, overclocking is limited at 1050Mhz and comes at lowest 240$.

nothing custom there?

Edit: nvm i checked a bit and Imo this would be the best choice, but its ~ 300RON more.

Also you could OC to at least 875mhz, something 480gtx can only dream at stock cooler, plus that 2.5gb ram will be damn handy now.. Well I overestimated my 570gtx, its still fine atm but idk for how long, also im not at HD reso so this is a big savor lol :D

Even at this high relatively high price the 7870 is a better choice than that.http://www.mediadot.ro/placi-video/placa-video-sapphire-radeon-hd-7870-2048mb-ddr5-ghz-edition-oc
Also is in stock that 570 is not.

It has stock 4-phase PWM, idk i would be very careful OC'ing that :)

Well i thought he preferred NV, he showed only nv gpus ;) and sry i dont speak Romanian i did see its not in stock :p

But yea i agree with you that 7870 would be the best choice.

The 570 I listed is almost half the price of the 7870. Equivalent in USD 265. The 7870 is 465$. If you ask me it is totally not worth it.

It really isn't that much of a difference in performance.

You make a confusion. The choice is between the 480 and the 7850

They have similar prices.
To put it simple again. Out of the box the 480 is faster. If you overclock the 7850 it will be on par while needing one six pin power connector. You decide.

A GTX 480 with Accelero XTREME Plus is a beast ! You can O/C to 900Mhz on the core easily and you have the performances of GTX 580 !

Pretty much. Those coolers are pricey though. Personally, I'd love one but for that money I should just buy a waterblock.
