Key point he will be upgradeing to the Ivy Bridge at a later date and i think this mobo is compatible with both sandy and ivy. he will be using parts from his current build to complete it:

EVGA 580
4Gigs Patriot Memory 2133EL Series
2 1TB WD Hard Drives
Thanks i will pass every comment on to Tom !!!! Forgot to mention he will be using his current LGA 1156 cooler. I do believe that the LGA 1155 have the same hole pattern (am i correct ?)

I like this motherboard by the way:

No problems with those upgrades, one thing to consider, if you are going to be upgrading to IB then why not go with a 2500K instead?

Am I missing something? Why get the SB at all then? Why not go with IB now? (available in 2 days)

What is your mate gonna use his system for?

I've been looking at that gigabyte mobo too, the asrock extreme6 is also a good value for money board it seems.

Well if Sandybridge is a bit cheaper it might be worth considering, the 2500k is a hell of a cpu.
I recommend Asrock boards over Gigabyte, i think Erocker is using a Asrock board too. Gigabyte aint bad though, i mean usually it would come down to price and features for me.

ASRock Z77 Extreme4 is cheaper, i personally would rather save money than have a few extra ports and another pci express slot. Unless the user really plans to go tri sli/crossfire then nah forget it as build quality is great on the Asrock boards, especially the solid Japanese caps they use, bios are also solid.

IMO well on our local stores, (all prices will be in US $)

i5 2500k = 220.14$ + asrock z68 ext3 gen3 = 149.88$ = 370.02$

i5 (the K series forgot the number) = 240.85$ + asrock ext4 = 284.76$ = 525.76$ also depends on which store, some store sell it cheaper but they are on 2 different corners but still if you have similar price range, I say i5 2500K for you

Well looks like Tom decided to get the Gigabyte Mobo and the 3770K after all. Got a good deal on it to after the rebate. Will start putting it together friday and see how it runs on water cooling.

Stock Temps: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H / Core i7 3770K/ Using Modified CoolIt FreezeOne. The Motherboard must be reading the +3.3V wrong and his idle temps for his GPU went up 10Degrees on this motherboard (weird)
