hey I was just wondering how much difference there was between the two, because my plan is to either buy 1 HD 7950 for now and go crossfire in 2-3 months, or to buy a HD 7970 and spend the money on other upgrades.

any help would be appreciated :)

I'd pick 7970 and other upgrades.

Its much better to have 1 GPU than 2 GPU

OR, the 7950 If you can get a good model, It has potential to be better than stock 7970. and upgrades/crossfire later

seriously this, similar price to a 7950 yet outoperforms the 7970 by a decent margin. No need to waste money for lower performance. At the very least wait for AMD to revamp pricing in light of todays launch.

I will take a look at it, what is its typical power draw and how hot does it run min- max load?

Not sure what reviews you've seen, but TPU overall shows otherwise

(higher the res larger the gap since the RAM)

Though I agree, waiting for a pricing change isn't a bad idea. Though I am seeing some used 7970's out there for $410. Time will tell how available the 670 is though, if it's hard to get hands on, pricing won't matter much, so AMD won't change till the card is more available.

And price for a 7950, 670 and 680? Pointless to get 7970 for $600 when you can get a 670 for $400

the stock 399$ one sure, however the Asus Direct cu II one, the palit one, and the zotac one? not so much.

the asus direct cu II one is only supposed to be 20$ more expensive than the vanilla while offering less heat, noise, power than the 7970 while being 8% faster overall and 50-100$ cheaper.

no need to go 7970 at this point, and the 670 is in stock at most etailers now.

edit: @ GreenD it's expected to go for 499-549 AUD depending on the type. So cheaper than the 7970 by a decent margin (with the exception of your supplier deal which will likely translate to cheaper within ratio to the standard price of the 7970) with the vanilla 670 being neck and neck and the non reference models being faster.
