2500K, 2x4Gb 1600Mhz, GTX 670, etc. Don't go AMD, its not so good in gaming at this price point. If you are going for movie encoding or some heavy multithreaded works, then AMD is fine.

Its a gaming rig - less CPU moar GPU. Good upgrade path for CPU, once ready, grab a K series quad and another kit of ram and you will be set.

Because that's how much BD sucks in gaming. Even in photo editing/video encoding the BD isn't worth it for my girlfriend because it's too power hungry.

I have BD man and I really can't complain with its performance but the numbers speak for themselves... 2500K is much better and much cheaper. You will also find the BD motherboards tend to be more expensive and you run into a lot more Ram compatibility issues than intel. The money you save on bd could almost pay for a 60gb SSD to throw some games on. If it purely for gaming then a 120gb ssd would be fine for the whole system.

I would also recommend 2nd hand gfx cards, absolute bargains can be had on near new cards!!

Is the 3570k faster? Yes.
Is it the better deal? No.

You can get more out of an 8150 platform for the price you would put into it, also keep in mind that 1155 has hit a wall on its upgrade path. An AM3+ rig will support future AMD CPUs so upgrading will be less backbreaking. I'm not saying BD is better than what Intel has to offer, but AMD plans to support the platform longer than Intel is supporting 1155 which means when Pile Driver and Excavator come out, you can use the same motherboard. You'll spend less to upgrade the platform when new CPUs get released.

Or you can get the 2500K for $220, which will run circles around the 8150 in almost all tasks except for the heavily multithreaded ones. Why bother with upgrades when the 2500K will last for years, and by which time even the AM3+ will have hit a wall in terms of upgrability. A Q9550 can still play most games decently, and that processor was released in 2008. We were still in AM2+ then (try upgrading to Bulldozer!). Long ago I would have recommended you to take the path with upgrade flexibility, but the new gen processors are so monstrously powerful by the time you need upgrading every single platform in existence right now would have become legacy stuff.

Wow, an eight core processor for just 200$? I see a combo savings deal with a blu-ray burner for the 8150! Now seriously, a 2500K is still the best gaming CPU around with great OC headroom. Build your machine around this with a Z77 mobo or if you run out of the budget even a P67 will do just fine and get a good GPU. The GTX670.

*substituted FX8150/990FX/water cooler for 2500K/Z77/CM 212+ air cooler
$991.90... upgrade to a GTX 670 from 560ti for about $200 more :cool:

Nope I'm not kidding. It's a great card on a budget and it's a lot of bang for $239.99 I own that GTX480, and I own GTX470, and a GTX570. I prefer the GTX480 over the GTX570 because of the extra memory and after I OC the GTX480. Also, as I stated.. pick up the GTX670 if his budget will allow.
