Hitachi's stuff made in Japan were flawless compared to the similar made in China...Even today I have one perfectly working genuine Hitachi 60GB HDD "Made in Japan", bought in another life, while my last 1TB Hitrachi "Made in China" died after 2 months.....

It sucks when you end up having just 2 major vendors from a broad range of them in the past.
Seagate, Maxtor, Hitachi, Samsung, WD we now only have WD and Seagate. Same scenario as with graphic cards. Wide selection and now we only have 2. CPU's as well. Many vendors, now we only have two. Not cool.

Nothing wrong with only 2, we have plenty of competition between AMD and Nvidia, and also between AMD and Intel. The second one sounds silly I know, but if you think about it other than high end desktop and laptop AMD competes pretty well against Intel.
