In some cases, a small BB sized for some paste and a small pea sized for others.
Do your recearch before applying and if in doubt just heat the cpu up for about 10min and pop the cooler off and see how it spread and fix if needed.

also having some 99% Isopropanol alcohol, and some women's make up remover pad's to clean the paste off work's very well. Grab the quilted cotton ones NOT the regular cotton ones cuz they leave tiny hairs behind. :wtf:

WallyWorld or your local drug store will carry them.

I can't believe it, but I was at Microcenter the other day and they had a number of tubes of Shin-Etsu for less than $4/ea! I have always heard praise for the stuff, so I am wondering if it still is considered a top TIM? How about the one with "99% nano-diamond particles"? The physics is sound, but that doesn't mean that it is implemented well...

Is the Swiftech branded TIM that comes with their blocks (Apogee HD in my case, don't know if they have changed what they use) any good? I recall hearing somewhere that it is just re-labeled AS Ceramique, which I suppose makes sense (non-conductive TIM in a Water-Cooling System...).
Lastly, I have a tube of stuff that is just plain white with no label that I got from a friend when he purchased a GPU waterblock, I think it may have been a Danger Den or EK? He just gave me the whole bag of fittings and whatnot that came with it as he had all his own, and in the bag was the little tube of TIM. Anyone have any idea what it may be? I can take a picture of it, but it won't be until Sunday (at the girlfriend's for the weekend).

*I don't mean to hijack the thread, I just didnt want to start another for such a similar question.

Diamond is the best heat transfer IMO.. I used Arctic Silver paste aswell as MX-4!

Best has been by far the IC Diamond paste... Use more but get Way MORE! :cool:

+1. THey sent me a bug huge tube many years ago, and I still have it. I will not use it on GPUs though, killed my GPU(maybe bad batch, had larger particles in it that scratched the surface of the GPU and made it non-operational.).

I'm still using Arctic silver 5 seems that over the years it's been around it's consistently a good performer it's easy to spread and easy to remove and after a little bit of curing time works well on both CPU and GPU alike and little bit goes a long way and take an age to go off

What would be the top all-purpose TIMs? I've read that, for example, IC Diamond does well on CPUs but poorly on GPUs.

Has anyone tested Céramique 2 on an AMD GPU? or should I go for the MX-4? Seems to work fine in both scenarios.

TIM isn't anything to get excited about. Unless I'm absolutely fucked, I just order a new tube of TIM along with whatever else I order next time I buy from Newegg so I don't get killed on shipping for something so silly as just a tube of thermal paste. I still prefer my aging tube of MX-2, but since the ICD 24 testing that's been going on here lately I got a giant tube of that and when the MX-2 runs out I'll probably just stick with that (maybe use ICD on CPUs and save the MX-2 for GPUs after reading Cadaveca's horror story... I hardly ever replace GPU tim anyway so even the little bit of MX-2 I have left should last a good while).

I use the TIM that came with my Noctua cooler too. It's not crappy, it's one of the best out there and it's considered a high grade TIM similar to PK-1, MX-4, GC-Extreme...
