Hello everybody,

I wanted to buy the asrock z77 extreme9 motherboard and my question is about memory compatibility.
I saw in newegg that they have combo deals for this board with memory.

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!

Do you think I can rely on these deals that the memory is compatible with the motherboard?
I tried to compare the memory model code with the ones that are supported according to the asrock site - ASRock > Products > Z77 Extreme9

The ONLY match I got was for corsair dominator CMT32GX3M4X1866C9 (which is really expensive)

I also looked in gskill site for supported memories (G.SKILL-SEARCH BY MANUFACTURER MODEL NAME ) and found a few that match the combo deals in newegg (F3-12800CL10Q-32GBZL, F3-1866C10Q-32GXL, F3-1866C10Q-32GAB) but these codes don’t appear in the asrock list.
So, can I rely on the gskill site even though it doesn’t appear in asrock memory supported list?
I also looked in corsair site but they don’t even have the z77 extreme9 listed…

Thanks for your help
:)

I have quite a few G.Skill kits, can't say that I have had any issues getting ram working by just enabling XMP option, at all, all the way up to 2400 MHz kits. That review (Extreme9) should be next board review form me, BTW.

Thanks for your answer.
So what you're saying is that any G.Skill kit will do as long as I'm enabling XMP option?
when will you be publishing the review?

I don't think New Egg would put out a bundle/combo that wasn't compatible.

Basically. The memory contorller itself is in the CPU, so really, it's down to BIOS support for DIMMs to work right ,and I did noticed that the Extreme9 follows XMP profiles to the letter, which will go a long way towards ensuring that most memory modules are compatible.

1866 MHz 1.5 V-1.65 V memory should have no problem working on any board with either SandyBridge or IvyBridge CPUs. It's 2133 MHz + kits with SNB, and 2400++ MHz kits with IVB that are most problematic, and again, that's due to BIOS, not hardware.

Hopefully the review will go live some time next week, although it may take a day or two longer depending on what the other reviewers are up to. I only do motherboards and memory, so actual publishing dates aren't my call, as other reviews do need to be considered as well. Only on actual launches(liek the Z77 launch) can I say what day a review will be live, and then, I can't talk about it. :p

I took this from newegg site:
Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, L...

"Combo Specials are offered to Newegg.com shoppers as a way to purchase multiple items together at a discounted price. Only one of each Combo Special can be purchased per order. Offers valid only while supplies last. Purchasing multiple units of a Combo Special that features a mail-in rebate will yield only one redeemable rebate offer (per the manufacturer's "limit one per household" provision). Newegg.com cannot guarantee the compatibility of Combo items. Please contact the manufacturer(s) directly if you have issues or concerns regarding compatibility."

So I guess it's not certain that it would work.

I'll be looking forward to read your review then!
:)

Good of you to read the fine print.;)

But if they were selling bundles that wouldn't work they would just be losing money on returns/RMAs I can't see them doing that.

Yeah they just bundle shit together that works to clear out older stock.

Personally I'd shop around..

I guess you're right. and if I enable the XMP and it actually makes it work, then I guess the combo deals do make sense.

I'm not so sure about that in regards to the combo deals. you have a LOT of different memory types, brands, sizes and speeds to choose from.
I think you're right regarding their daily deals and shell shockers. over there it really does look like they put older stuff just to get rid of it.

Hi all,

Just a small update, eventually I went with G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL10Q-32GBZL.
I enabled XMP profile in the bios and it runs 1600 with no special issues so far.
Thank you all for helping!
:)
