Two options I have at the moment.

Someone is selling a HD 5870 for $120 on Craigslist, another person is selling a 5770 and a 6770 for $110.

Just getting some opinions on which deal to jump on :)

I would have to buy a new motherboard if I go the 5770/6770 route though.

5870 is still a pretty strong card. I just retired mine for a 7970 not because my 5870 wasn't cutting it I just wanted to upgrade.

5870, as although the 6770 + 5770 would technically equal the performance of a 5870, there are a couple of reasons the single 5870 would be better:

- Many modern pc games tend to be console ports, with relatively poor coding, and as a result, many games wont utilize the crossfire setup to its fullest extent.

- Lower power draw of the single card solution seems to be worth the extra $10 in the long run

And finally, surely the cost of a new motherboard isn't worth the saving of $10 on the graphics card?

5870 as i like single card solutions, less overall heat and power than using 2 cards. Then you have to factor in not having to buy a new motherboard. I also like single card as you dont have to worry if a game has good dual gpu performance or not.

There is now a third GPU solution. It's called VirtuMVP and I'm running it as we speak. My Intel HD 4000 IGPU alongside my discrete HD7970 GPU. Pretty amazing piece of software which really works as advertised.

What are people recommending? Should I pick up another 5770 or buy another graphics card/wait for next gen?

Does it work on all CPUs?

You cant crossfire a 5770 and a 6770. Just to be sure, op, do you understand this?

In fact tose two can be crossfired, and dhdude it's just right, console ports don't use the benefit of crossfire that well, would be better to get the HD 5870 unless you want to spend less.

Does it work on all CPUs?

Go buy a a 7850! ( 5770 can be sold for 65)

Can get them for £150 if your saavy and they mess up the place!

Throwing megahurtz and polygons all over the place.

In all seriousness though I get over 1700 points in heaven benchmark with tessellation on normal.

( that's a average of about 55 fps I think I think my 6870 got around 36 and my 5770 got around 21 all over-clocked to the highest you could)

They are the exact same card only one has updated display port specs and HDMI specs, they should crossfire fine.

Panther, i know they are the same card, but does that mean that the drivers will allow crossfire? I was under the impression that you could only crossfire cards when they are from the same series e.g. 67xx with a 67xx only.

So long at it's the same chip the numbers don't matter ( thus far)

I think the same applies to to 8800 and 9800 nvidia cards.

Here's a handy chart for future reference for other folks

I'm looking for something with at least twice the power of the 5770

Atm I'm thinking either a 6970 or a 7850
This will be after upgrading to a 1080P monitor (hopefully next month)

I had a 6970 just before I had the 7850.

Don't even bother looking at a 6970, it's barely a upgrade from a 6870 really aside from V-ram.

If I were you ,I would chose 5870 rather than 5770 or 6770.At this moment, I think others' opinion may not be useful for you.
