USB Issues

I hope this is the right section, if not then I apologize.

Recently my USBs would randomly stop working for some reason. At first I thought it was driver issues so uninstalled and reinstalled all of them, but that did nothing. Tried formatting after that and still had the problem. My PSU was a bit old and underpowered for desktop so bought a new one, but that wasn't it either. Ive checked BIOS stuff and it all looks okay from my end, though I can be missing something. This all started up after my friend unplugged a USB 360 controller from the ports on the side of my Das keyboard. I'm starting to lean toward me having a bad motherboard, but I just bought it last year and its been working great though also could be something that I missed in BIOS though I have touched nothing and updated. Rechecked all the cables internally and everything is good on that end too.

Kinda at a loss where to go from here. Been looking around on Google, but have found no help there. Posting here hoping someone has an idea. Ill be looking in on the thread all day so if anyone needs more info, I will respond quickly.

Natr0n: All of them at the same time? Is that possible?

Law-II: Spare keyboard works fine as do two other USB ports. Two have suddenly stopped working which I just found out.

Are those working USB 3.0?

Have you reinstalled the chipset driver, Intel INF? Those 3.0 are controlled by the Etron driver.

Just did that to get two more working. There's two more that when I installed the driver for, the rest stopped working as well which I never had happen before.

Well everything seems okay right now since I didn't install the drivers for the other two USB ports. Guessing that was the problem, but gonna see how stuff goes. If all goes well for today or they disconnect again, I will post back. Thanks to everyone who responded!

It was a nice few hours, but the problem just came back again. Both my keyboard and mouse stopped working and all ports went dead.

All? Including the USB 3.0? When you boot and have the USB keyboard attached can you use the keyboard in BIOS?

Do you have the USB controllers enabled in BIOS?

I can't think of anything but try a clear CMOS.

do the ports go completely dead(no power at all)
if so sounds like the motherboard is defective or you have a intermittent grounding fault

Not entirely dead because if I try unplugging and plugging back in, they get power for a brief second before not working again.

If thats the case, new motherboard time? Any way I could check to be for sure?

any warnings in the device manger the only way to check without buying a tester would be to snip the end off a cable and test the voltage with a meter
http://www.allpinouts.org/index.php/USB_-_Universal_Serial_Bus
then again there could be a fault with the datawires but usually all the ports on a machine acting up is a sign of a grounding fault someplace
is the rear io shield installed properly ? iv seen them touch the pins inside the port and short them

Nothing ever pops up in device manager.

EDIT: Rear shield is good too.

as a last resort after you have messed with the drivers would be to pull the motherboard out and set it on the motherboard-box and run it
to eliminate the probability of a grounding fault
