Hello everyone, I am new here on techpowerup. My Name is Jonathan and I seem to have run in to a problem that maybe fit someones expertise on here. :)

*Currently Running Test*: Testing more service optimization & system tune-ups.

*UPDATE*: I am now going to attach images of each process or service that catches my attention to provide more information. (1 IMAGE UPLOADED)

My problem...

The issue I am having has been going on about a week after I built this PC. My problem is that when I start windows, my computer takes FOREVER to load all the programs. It makes its way to the log in screen just fine, but as soon as I type in my password and press enter, it stays on the welcome screen loading for about a minute and half... then takes another 5 almost 6 minutes to load up the desktop to an operational state.

My Rig

Here are my computer specs...

Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional ATX AM3+ Motherboard

Processor: (Bulldozer) AMD FX-8120 Zambezi Processor (8 CPUs), ~4.5GHz (OverClock'd)

Operation System:Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)

Sound Card: On board Realtek High Definition Audio

Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5

Memory: Corsair Vengeance™ 1600MHz DDR3 16GB (4 x 4) RAM (4GB each slot)

BIOS Version: 1.80

Hard Drive's: Western Digital Caviar Black Edition 1TB (WDC WD1001FALS-40U9B0), Western Digital Caviar Green Edition 500GB (WDC WD5000AACS-00ZUB0) & Hitachi 300 GB (Hitachi HDT725032VLA380)

Event Viewer Log

I checked event viewer which told me this for every time I started my computer.

Windows has started up:
Boot Duration : 358023ms
IsDegradation : false
Incident Time (UTC) : ‎2012‎-‎08‎-‎12T03:44:06.796400500Z

The MS change every time between 300K and 400Kms

So as you can see... long long boot time lol

Methods of Troubleshooting So Far...

I have tried the following methods of troubleshooting so far...

1. Disabled all unnecessary start up programs... (ObjectDock, Rainmeter, Core-Temp, THX TruStudio, RealTek HD Audio Manager, AMD VISION ENGINE Control Center)
*Result: Very slight performance boost, still extremely long load time.

2. Remove the SuperFetch service
*Result: More slight performance boost, still extremely long load time.

3. Clean up and defrag the registry.
*Result: No help

4. Defrag PC
*Result: Performance increase, no load time help

5. Try restoring everything to default factory settings (Clean install)
*Result: Still no faster boot :/

I have tried these recommended tips or troubleshoots from the forum replies.

6. Memtest86+
*Result: All tests came back fine, went through perfect with no errors at all.

7. Soluto
*Result: performance increase, no boot time luck...

8. Troubleshooting with clean install through MS CONFIG
*Result: Slight performance increase, and about 10ms faster boot time... needless to say... Still screwed up.

9. Update/Re install drivers and bios
*Result: Still running super slow at boot.

10. Close firewall/Antivirus and test
*Result: Absolutely no performance increase and still slow boot.

11. Tried resetting stock settings in bios (again)
*Result: Slight performance increase by 30 seconds, but still a 5 min start up.

12. Update AMD Chipset Driver
*Result: Still a very slow boot time... :(

13. Try a different SATA Cable
*Result: Hard drive speeds became a bit faster ;D but sadly no boot time increase :(

14. Delete and re-install the MBR
*Result: Absolutely nothing! :(

15. Test for bad drives
*Result: Removing the bad drive and booting without it didn't seem to make a difference. :ohwell:

16. Tried testing boot up using Guest account
*Result: Very interesting, my boot time was 15 - 30 seconds! so it has to be something with my main account... wonder what it is o.0

17. Disable Windows Live ID Authentication Service
*Result: WOW! all the way from 358023ms to 135869ms! Thats a huge performance increase! (Has now increased back to 2 minute boot)

18. Uninstall Avast
*Result: Uninstalling Avast gave a huge boost in performance for boot-up... but I'm still running slow... 1 Min 48 Sec's, I'm doing service tests and system tune-ups to try to solve this.

I also tried loading up the computer in safe mode, seeing if maybe it was a service or process causing the problem, or if maybe it was a bios setting... but surprisingly the computer loaded with in 15 seconds going to safe mode. Which tells me what ever is causing the problem is a setting somewhere in the actual windows 7 processes or service that load when I start the full operating system.

On a side note...

I have installed the Microsoft HOTFIX for the Bulldozer processor to see if it would possibly help the performance, but it didn't at all.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Hope to resolve this problem soon.

Thanks!
Jonathan

you have to many startup items.

try ccleaner/in tools / startup

http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER

some startups can be hidden too, so take that into account

I have tried ccleaner, as I mentioned, I disabled everything in my start up and still had no increase in my start up time.

fresh windows install is usually last, but best choice.

Also, don't install that hotfix again doesn't really work well at all from what I read.

A ram module not working properly maybe cause that problem. Try memtest86+

If you can't, so remove two slots and try several configs (ex. modules A, B, C & D: AB, BC, CD, ...)

Try disabling your antivirus and/or firewall software and test.

If that does not fix it; then, try using Microsoft's System Configuration Utility to troubleshoot.

Some decent troubleshooting info here using the MSConfig utility:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Tried your advice, and did everything on the microsoft link you supplied, Still loaded very slowly, roughly 5 minutes but a bit faster than usual.

I looked around online and can't seem to find anything other than the Safe Mode boot logging that is in windows itself.. Any suggestions for boot logging software ?

As suggested, update bios to laztest nand use latest AMD chipset drivers, also might want to try a new/different SATA cable on the boot drive sometimes it can be something as simple as this though can also be very often overlooked and not thought of.

Make sure you don't leave a cd/dvd in the drive while the pc is booting, Now i'm not sure if it was just my old dvd drive as i have not tested with a diffrent one but when ever i left a dvd in the drive my post screen would hang for ages and windows would also hang just after the welcome screen.
This might not be the problem but just an idea :)

Thought i best add that this was on the old pc and not the one in my system spec.

I am updating the chipset drivers now, Hoping this will work!

Lol I did that one time a long long time ago, if there was a cd in my drive my computer would take 10 MINUTES! haha
