I was talking about Market share, not steam statistics : ]

Intel have about 60% still. ( yay intergrated graphics!)

AMD have about 24%
Nvidia have about 16%

As APUs become more popular I imagine AMD will take a quite the chunk out of Intels share soon.

Good for AMD, hopefully they will start to make some money soon.

yeah, but guess which markets bigger (hint: it aint discrete)

You can't call Intel's garbage "graphics" on any level... If you stick some crappy GPU to every mobo and now CPU taht you sell, that doesn't make you the biggest GPU vendor. You just stick a lot of crap everywhere. It's like saying yes, Peugeot has the biggest market share. In selling coffee blenders...

In terms of volume, revenue or profit? Also is Tegra included? AMD is trading at 1/3 the share price of NV and has market cap to match, and AMD tends to be widely regarded as "much more affected by PC sales" than nvidia... so...

You're absolutely right integrated is alot bigger, I just want to make the point that AMD's integrated is alot smaller than people seem to think, at least until the new Xbox..

Actually now that I think about it... now might be a good time to buy AMD :D

I wouldn't  They have potential to take off with the APUs but I'd say they're not worth putting in money in just yet.

I imagine Mailman would agree

Actually yes it does.

Product quality has nothing to do with market share eh : ]

Every company is doing what they think it's best and better serves their interest. This brings me back to PhysX. NV decided to invest in this because they consider that it is a way to sell more cards. Whether it pays off or not I have no idea.

I see no AMD fanboys.

I am against proprietary bullshit at the best of times, but once Nvidia deliberately dropped support for a discrete PhysX card in their drivers where an AMD main card was detected, forcing you to use increasingly obsolete drivers and jump through a few hoops or, as they hope, go all out Nvidia, I lost all interest in PhysX or games that "require" it to look their best.

I wouldn't buy them for the potential with APU's - I am almost 99% certain that they got the contract for the new Xbox.

I heard the same actually, they're supplying the WII U GPU also.

Not sure what Sony are doing mind you.

whats good about this is they dont mandate a PhysX card

They do if you want the advanced PhysX features, just like every other PhysX title.

The big name titles have all been excellent. Mafia II and Metro 2033 were stunning game, as were both Batmans.

Also, I think it is about time we drop the "all 10 of them" exaggeration considering there have been about 360 titles released that use PhysX.

theres been about 10 that used hardware accelerated physX. software physX is a different thing entirely, and comparable to any physics engine out there.

Mafia II: stupid performance hits, easily fixed by disabling some broken/bugged cloth animations.
Batman: completely screwed up for AMD users. effects that were there on the consoles were missing for AMD/ATI users.
Metro: worked well, except that the physX animations were a bit borked. you'd have piles of debris appear, interact with nothing, and vanish into thin air. oh and gas/smoke effects. yay.

a few of the games that "required" a Nvidia card for phsyx could be hacked to run the calculations on the CPU.

I remember doing it with Mirrors edge.
( you had to run simplified calculations and fewer particles etc but it still looked a lot better than without)

I like PhysX, especially the GPU accelerated stuff. I think it gives far more of a visual impact than DX11 and tessellation and the like. Although people have moaned about that too, albeit for different reasons, it still offers sod all in comparison.

The APEX features are pretty sweet actually, and with Unreal Engine 4 using it PhysX isn't going anywhere.

It is the same reaction all over the place when you talk about PhysX with people who use Radeons. It is useless, looks like s**t and so on. Funny thing is those who enjoy PhysX with their cards have a completely different opinion.

Funny thing is you can use Havoc Engine which could be customized to Radeon Only and it be the same deal that NV is ploying, Havoc engine is far more scalable and adaptable to run on slew of hardware. I hear Open CL is the same way.

if it worked more titles would be Physx Driven but they arent. Because they can realize that they can use the Havoc engine and most users out there wouldnt be getting a graphics card because of Physx/Physics.

i was on nvidia back in those days. GF's rig is still on an 8800GT.

its no different to forcing 8XAA on in a game. sure it looks better - but at a pretty hefty cost, for something with zero gameplay benefits.

That's a nice idea, but the company that owns Havoc is more interested in crushing AMD under foot, big meanies.

if it worked more titles would be Physx Driven but they arent. Because they can realize that they can use the Havoc engine and most users out there wouldnt be getting a graphics card because of Physx/Physics.

I'm pretty sure PhysX is used in more games than Havoc.
