Bingo. Like I said if MSE wasn't free and just "built in" I wouldn't run anything at all. If I feel the least bit worried I just run Housecall(Even then it's just me being paranoid because I have never had anything come up)

I am serious here, there are boatloads of people who can only just about use the internet for emails and other basic necessities. You really need something to keep them safe.

Yeah I just was gonna add to that. In Phusius's case he has "elders" that just aren't "net savvy" This is who these viruses are aimed at. They don't know any better.

For example I have a landline here in my house that I NEVER use(included in my TV/Internet package) Pretty much the ONLY calls I get these days is the newest scam

"Hello is this INSTG8R?" Says someone in a thick foreign accent
"Yes?"
"This 'Todd Smith' calling from Microsoft Customer...." CLICK :shadedshu

One of these days I will let them try to lead me down this scam to see what they're up too. But I can't be arsed to deal with it.
But "Little Granny Knows Nothing" may not be that smart and who knows what kinda damage they are causing.

I get this call at least a couple times a month.

On Topic- I use NIS on my main rig as well as my wife and kids laptops and it's been fine for the last 4 revisions or so. I use MSE on my crunchers or any other rigs

Not really, if you set W7 to all downloads it will automatically download MSE and the Malicious Bla Bla tool. But really viruses are rare. Most people open the door to problems. But if you just use it for e mail and checking bank accounts there is little to worry about

In my humble opinion, if you can't control the surfing habits of a person who's computer you are responsible for maintaining, you want some type of malware protection on it. Period.

It's also a good idea to have some sort of protection as you never know when a legit site is going to get stung with a drive-by they don't know about. Safe surfing habits are great, but just like the AV software, safe surfing is a method that is not 100% reliable.

The AV software you choose is up to you. The top ones are good.
I use Symantec End Point Protection SB at work and it has caught a lot of stuff which it has blocked or removed. I use it because it allows me a single management point for my entire domain.
I run the AV server on my desktop and it will bury my poor little machine when it decides to query and update everything on the network.
I can live with this as it gives me a valid excuse to continue to update my machine to handle the load.

Newest Norton 360 isn't bad, they really improved it from years past. I wouldn't run anything but Symantec Endpoint myself, but that's mainly a techie thing..... I still would install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and run that as well. I mainly run security apps like these for testing now... my surfing habits don't require me to actually need any of this garbage... but clients keep asking so I check.
