PC will not boot please help!!!

I really need help figuring this out. I'm going to attach and youtube video to help explain and show my problem. I built this PC a few years ago and it worked great until one day it did this...

Hdd dead or a bad cable or port on the board. Thats if there is a hdd installed and that what you are trying to describe. If the bios won't retain settings try replacing the cmos battery. It's hard to determine what your problem is by the video. Can't tell if you are have and non boot issue because of a drive or you are having a bios setting retention problem.

Well it would seem your HDD has "Disappeared" I assume you just have the one. I guess the first thing to do is pull the side off the case and check the connections. Try again. Not Solved? Try connecting the drive to a different SATA port(If it's SATA of course)

Would be helpful if you went into UserCP here in the forum and filled out your System Specs. Makes it easier to troubleshoot.

Pc will not boot

I've tried different ports. The hdd in spinning up I can feel it when i put my hand on it.

Do you have another SATA cable you can try seeing as it's spinning? Like Mad_Shot mentioned are the BIOS settings "sticking" if you change them. I saw you change the boot order but hard to tell if it did anything.

That hard drive is a .11 wich is not good news for you. Only thing I can think of is freze the drive for a few hours and get any and alll info of it before its too late. I hope you have a extra drive for the data. Also if you hear a click it is not good.

You can download linux and install it on a thumb drive or a CD and boot from one or the other and see if you can access the HD from there to back up files at least.

Yeah the .11 was the "bad one" wasn't it? I have one around here somewhere. Still "working" but if it's where I think it is it might very well explain why my External HDD enclosure is "Spotty" :laugh:

Gonna have to check that tomorrow...

I have three still with data but not in rigs :laugh:

Also have a .12 going click clack on my main rig but all data backed up.

It could be the cable but as most have said already the drive is probably toast. Do you have another drive laying around you can test the port and cable with?

Don't tell me bad things about the .12 that is my secondary drive in my main rig. My RAID 0 array ever "barfs" that's my "backup" :twitch:

Less than $200 and at least 500 gigs. I really want quality and reliability. I won't be using it for gaming or anything fancy. Just a good office computer.

for $200 you should easily be able to get two 500gb drives and use raid so you have some redundancy. WD blues should be fairly cheap. Nowadays there isn't as much choice over HDD manufacturers.

1Gb's re $90 Western Digital Caviar Blue WD10EALX 1TB 7200 RPM ...
500mb's are about $60 ea
Your board supports RAID, so you don;t necessarily need a controller card. But i hear they perform better than on-board.
$40 for a slightly better controller card - HighPoint RocketRAID 622 PCI-Express 2.0 x1 SATA I...

Should give you excellent reliability.

He said he wanted reliability over performance, so i recommend going raid 1, or get 3 and go raid 5.
