I wanna upgrade.

I wanna buy a used socket 1156 P55 mb(for 4.0 ghz or more) need more then a 4 pin phase, but they are verry hard to find used in denmark(not many P55 mb with more then 4 pin phase). Mabye i should buy a ASUS ROG Rampage III Formula, Intel core i7 960 for 200-250 euros (there are such a set for sale where i live),but according to passmark a i7 960 isn't that much faster then my i7 870 BUT i can oc it to 4ghz or more (not possible to oc that much with my set up).

Or mabye buy the new ivy bridge socket 1155 i3 topmodel (yes i know it's not quad core but it's generation 3) i3 3240 (faster then my Q6600)and a mb about 100 euro mb with intel sata 3, usb 3.0 and sli or crossfire support or both, could be something like a ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M .

Then i can have great sata 3 speed for my kingston hyper x k3 ssd,in the future i can use 2 gpu's and is will have usb 3.0 (do we need anything more?), the cpu will be oc to about 4.0 ghz.

What would you recomend me ?

(had i a mb with sli support, i would have bought a used gtx 560 for sli, but i don't have sli support, accatually i can't upgrade, no sli and crossfire support and i have heard that my 4 pin phase i limeting my oc, compared to a mb with min 6 pin phase, so i am stuck with 3.3 ghz with turbo and hyper threading on)

A Core i7 960 would be more of a side-grade--the i7-870 can do 4GHz with some tweaking. If you can get a Core i5-3570k or i5-2500k, both of those would make good upgrades, and overclock like mad. I'm happy with my Maximus IV Gene motherboard, but that might be out of your price range (and I'm not sure what's available in Denmark).

Honestly I wouldn't upgrade until something newer that SB/IB comes out. The I7-870 is still a GREAT chip.

+1, Youre not getting much by changing the board and CPU out. If its games that youre concerned about upgrade that video card

Not much point, nope. My 950 will do 4.5ghz, but to maintain that it would require $300+ in custom water cooling. Above 4ghz, these chips go thermo-nuclear! I have the monstrous D14 cooler on mine just for 4ghz... Just do as I am, save your pennies for an sb-e system.

This. I too would wait for some nextgen goodness, if I disable HT my old C0 stepping will do 4.5gig (4.4gig with HT enabled) on air just, I run it at 4.1gig 24/7 and it's plenty for me, I am in the process of upgrading some stuff myself but I will keep my CPU and motherboard until something new arrives as the expense in relation to a 10-15% performance increase is just not worth it to me anymore.

It's just that i can't do much oc, no usb 3 (for ther future) no sata 3 (not the marvel one) for my ssd, and no support for 2 gpu's.

going for under 20 sec each pass in ibt normal and less then 11 sec in superpi 1m id like under 10 sec.

So, you want to upgrade your system for benchmarks? In all seriousness, wait for LGA 1150 next year so you don't get stuck on yet another socket you won't be able to upgrade. The original i7 chips still keep up with the newer ones to an extent and Bulldozer so there is no reason to upgrade unless your games are maxing out your CPU.

I would be fine if i could find a used oc freindly mb like the ones people use to oc i3,i5,i7 cpu's to more then 4 ghz, when socket 1156 was the latest platform(even if it's only sata 2).

It's just that finding such a mb is hard when i want to use less then 100euros, sometimes it would be easyer to get something like a new or used entry, low end gamer mb and a used i5 2500k, except every one, wants a used i5 2500k instead of buying a new i3 or an expensive i7 like the 2600k/2700k or the socket 2011 ones. I mean socket 1155 supports usb 3.0, easy to find a new mb that supports 2 gpu's, intel sata 3 and a cpu like a i5 2500k is very powerfull cpu when oc'ed(what do we need more then that).

My limited is that i need at least a socket 1155 for optimal sata 3 and a used socket 1156 P55 mb could well be as expensive as a gamer,oc entry/low end socket 1155 mb (i can get the money for my i7 870 what a i3 3240 cost's and my x want to buy my laptop = a new or a used mid end gamer,oc mb)

A quad core i7 870 generation 1 or a dual core i3 generation 3 with intel sata 3? compromise would be a used i5 socket 1155 and a mb for the rest of my money up to my limited.

Toms Hardware is saying that a 1 gen i7 is equal to a gen 3 i3, so i guess it would not be a big difference from a old i7 to a new i3 , people is also saying that a pc could be old,not up to date in only 2-3 years (that's how fast things develops in the computer industry) http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html

If it's a B3 revision thats a decent price yes..... providing it works of course! When you say about old tech and revisions and Gen 1 i7 = current gen i3, thats a pretty broadbrush and fatally inaccurate assumption, from what I have read, clock for clock Ivy Bridge is about a 15% improvement over my i7 920 and Sandy Bridge was an 8 - 10%, now of course if they clock higher then that gap opens but once you factor in that current gen i3's don't have HT and mine does it very much muddies the water..... IMO for now, you should concentrate more on what you need to get the job done, if your happy to pay 90 Euro's for a more overclockable board to bleed 200 - 300mhz out of your existing CPU then thats not hugely expensive but thats up to you of course. Old is "relative", how many more frames do you think I would get in BF3 if I was running a GTX670 at 4.2gig on a i7 920 with HT enabled or an Ivybridge i3 as you mentioned it at 4.4gig without the HT..... probably very little.

Yep. I got an 870 at 4+ Ghz...2500K and such are better, more efficient, highly overclockable CPUs but I knew I wasn't going to see much improvement in that I mainly just game. So I was gonna just upgrade my GPUs and my display...but then I got interested in Mini-ITX with all the cool stuff becoming available in this segment. Time to do something a little different as opposed to just a little faster.

Thats what I am doing too, keeping the Mobo/CPU for time being, refreshing case, screen, GPU and some other bits.

Yeah...instead of tearing down and selling think will keep my current rig as a server/vm host for self-educational purposes. If I was going ATX again I would've kept my present case for my main rig.

Delegate it down to the role of folding box/ file server. I'll probably hang on to my 1st gen systems for that, and build an sb-e system for gaming.
