Which radiator must be large enough to be used without fans?

I want to make my setup dead silent... :cool:

My case is the raven RV 02 can i mount a 2x180mm radiator or 3x180mm on the bottom without fans ?

Since the dissipation area is practically very huge, overclocking the CPU and stock GPU block (in the future) should be fairly... Or not ?

Low watt parts for sure no issues. A high-end overclocked cpu and high-end gpu temps would be tks high for my comfort. My loop kept under low temps with 2 near silent fans on a normal 4x120+3x120+2x120s.

you fail to realize cooling fans provide cool and fresh air to all components in the machine, if your VRMs and PCB arent cooled it can cause the CPU to not operate right, plus what about your video cards, ram, HDD/SSD, PSU, and all other VRMs on those components?

I'm missing it.

You've got a PSU, with a fan presumably.
You've got a trio of fans on the bottom of the case.
You've got, what appears to be, a pair of fans on a graphics card.

How is this "Dead silent?" If you've already got so many fans why not a couple more low speed/noise fans?

those turbine/turbofan style at the bottom must be noisy at points of time (Turbo Fan designs were never silent)

True im worried about the VRMs and the motherboard like chipset...

I can use just the last fan that 180mm active then mount a 2x180mm rad without fans.

1x180mm active plus on the top some Noctua fan and the rest fanless, maybe my HDD needs active cooling.

The PSU must have a fan. Im not gonna buy a fanless PSU they are not reliable in my opinion and with low watts.

The trio fans are Silverstone Air penetrator, on low speed they are silent but on high... No way !

I did not write that it is dead silent ... I wrote that i want to do dead silent setup.

Yes they are noisy at low speed too ( for me ).

Im sure with this... You dont need any fan even OC, CPU and GPU.

Okay, even if you use a large radiator with no fans where is the heat going to go? A radiator radiates heat, the fans blow the heat away. There are quite a few fans on the market that are low speed and very quiet.

What Im saying is those fans in the case provide a Negative pressure which almost eliminates any hot spots in the case.

it cant be a radiator... it basically has to be a gigantic reservoir with heatsinks on it... you can always throw a rad in there but if your'e going totally fanless more water=better... if you can hook it up to your pool even better.

Get a MO-RA3 with some 500rpm fans, I have one and it is dead silent even with 9x AP15s at 1850 rpm.

that right there was the cool concept- drawback though is being as tall as it is- easy to knock over and damage fins or even cause leaks to occur- (needs to be anchored to floor/ Table or case itself)

Put the PC in another room and run the cables to your desk. Most motherboards have options to turn on with the keyboard.

To the OP: If you seriously want fanless you're going to need something like the MORA or similar, or better yet 2 of them! :rockout:

Big RADs/lots of RADs with SLOOOOOOW moving fans is the way to go IMO. The expensive fans ARE worth the $$$ :toast:

There are two cooling options. The first is to have a huge cooling area, and assume that the pump generates no noise... The problem is that you're looking at a 70+C source, and ambient temperatures in the 20s. A 50 degree difference means that all the energy needs to be dissipated by radiation and the small amount of convection caused by the heat differential. To put this in perspective, it's like turning on a hotplate to low, and leaving it on constantly.

That kind of heat differential will require huge amounts of surface area, that will likely be the size of most cases.

The second option is to have a huge amount of fluid. As others have stated, it takes a lot of energy to change waters temperature. The more water, the more energy. A gigantic reservoir will dramatically influence the amount of energy the system can absorb without appreciable heating.

Sorry, long winded. Short version, no this radiator is not big enough alone. If you'd like any kind of reasonable assurance then get a giant reservoir to go with that huge radiator. The simplest, cheapest, and least error prone solution is still a fan though. Given the other fans, the question is more of "why not" than anything else.

It only had the CPU and an 8400GS on it. Room temp was around 17C temps were within reason, but they were yate loon high speeds with PWM cranking them down to near silence (PSU fan was louder).

For you I would look at a pair of nice quite 180MM fans run two of them on a 3X180mm radiator and run the XSPC 120MM radiator you currently have with a low speed 120MM fan. That could have you down in temp's to something comfortable and more or less silent.

Way to look at fans...

70 Busy traffic at 5 m (16 ft)
60 Office or restaurant inside
50 Quiet restaurant inside
40 Residential area at night
30 Theatre, no talking
20 Whispering
10 Human breathing at 3 m (10 ft)
0 Threshold of human hearing (with healthy ears); sound of a mosquito flying 3 m (10 ft) away

These would be the parts to look at if I were you.

get a car radiator, mount it outside the house. and you have passive cooling
