hi,
i'm pretty confused of what card should i take(upgrading my HD5850).
in my country the Gigabyte GTX660 Windforce OC and the Sapphire HD7850 non-oc version is in the same price range.
i'll oc the card as much as i can and i'll play on 1680x1050 on maximum settings in all the new games.
what card should i take?what card would give me the best performance while both of them with manual oc?(as i said,as much as i can).
thanks.

$230 + shipping on newegg for a 660, $187 free shipping and a rebate making it 170ish, on newegg... u decide. after OC's they are a dead heat.

just make sure u get the 2gb 7850 if u go that route.

If you are only running 1680x1050, keep the 5850.

I can't see the incentive in dropping money when you have a capable card already.

What is your full system spec?

I disagree, not only will he get Physx with the 660, but TXAA, and most importantly, FXAA forced through Nvidia globally is probably of benefit to someone in his situation.

Buy a new card just for Physx and AA? Not worth it IMO.

actually i want to upgrade my HD5850 because BF3 works only on medium without AA and i want to play on ultra w/ AA.
BL2 works pretty bad on maximum settings,on high it works pretty ok with small drops.
if ill wait and uprade later - i will wait for HASWELL proccessors and HD8XXX / GTX7XX.

because you are running on a 955, i would definitely go for the gtx660... ( on amd nvidia seems (IMO) to run better. on saints row 3, which is an AMD game, a 560ti runs better/same than a 6950 (even if it is unlocked to a 6970).. so i would say the 660.

while W1zzard's review is an intel 4.5 Ghz cpu, the benchmark of battlefield3 is Illuminating...

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GTX_660/8.html

7850 (1920x1200) 40.9
gtx660 (1920x1200) 49.4.

BTW, what you are waiting for is going to cost you at least 800 dollars more (500 for the gpu, 300 for the cpu)

a "quick-and-dirty" upgrade is a p8h61m-lx, i3-2120, 1333ddr3 77721... (i bought that combo... works well). you will notice the speed difference... meaning it is probably better to get the h61,i3-2120,drr3 ram combo than the gtx660.

yes, the h61 has no overclocking, but an i3, has not overclocking anyways.

His resolution is so low that he can force AA almost as high as he wants.

Also physx have very little support. I would struggle to name a few recent titles. Physx is dead.

You have a slightly better CPU than me. Yet I can max out BF3 on ultra.

In your situation I would find a second hand 5850 or 5870 and run CF. That would out perform the 7850 for cheaper; Then I would find a second hand Phenom II X6. Done and dusted.

Phenom II X6 + 5850 CF > 7850 + Phenom II X4 by miles and will cost the same.

PS. The reason you are having issues with BF3 is you ram. BF3 uses more than 4GB of ram.

i think that getting a used phenom ii x6 would be a bit hard but ill try.
ill buy a new PSU and a used HD5850.(that's should be easy)
but i'm a bit afraid of over heating.my 5850 is about 65-70c at games.
with 5850 CF i should run BF3 on ultra with decent fps(45-50avg?)

I run 5850 CF, get anywhere between 39-80 depending on where I am on the map. Most settings on a combo of high and ultra.

Believe me a single 7850 is slower. So if you are not happy with 5850 CF you wont with a single 7850.

I would only recommend going the CF route only if you can find the another 5850 or 5870 for half the price of the 7850 otherwise you'd be better off with a single card value for money.

If you can't get a second hand Phenom II X6, get a second hand Bulldozer X6/X8 (if your board supports). They perform about the same and OC better. Ebay your old CPU to make up the part of the money.

Not sure if you read my above edits. But your main issue is RAM. BF3 uses more than 4GBs of ram. Last time I checked it was eating away more than 6GBs of my 16GB total. Not cool.

a used HD5850 should cost 450 ILS(about 1/3 of the price of 7850 at my country)
new 750w PSU should cost about 400 ILS so 5850+750w PSU = about 850 ILS + more 4GB RAM (about 100 ILS).
my mobo doesn't support bulldozers.
my phenom ii x4 isn't enough for max out bf3 and to run 5850 CF properly ?ill oc the cards to about 880/1150.
btw my mobo only support x16/x8.
