Hi guys. I'm looking for laptop for work and some gaming. I'm from Eastern Europe, so I have limited choice, not like the USA residents. I'm facing some problems. First, I don't see any HD 7750M or HD 7770M powered laptops. Second, mostly cheap GT 650M powered laptop have 17.3 inch screens (under 900 euros). I don't want a second PC, I want laptop, so 15.6 is only option. I have about 900 euros, so I decided to buy laptop with GT 640M or HD 7730M for 750 euros. My question is simple - who's faster (yes, I checked notebookcheck.com)? Maybe equal? I will play F1 2012, NFS: Most Wanted 2012 and Dirt 3 at 1366 x 768 resolution, mostly Online.

900 Euro would get you a beast of a gaming PC.

As far as laptop, dont expect the best performance. You will literally get about 1/5 of the level performance as a computer at the same price.

Go for a laptop which has a AMD Llano or Trinity APU. It's your fastest choice.

I have a PC with FX-8150 and 2x HD 6870. I'm living in two different cities in certain days of the week, so I want to have a affordable, powerful laptop to play F1 2012, Dirt 3 and NFS: Most Wanted 2012. As far as I know, GT 640M and HD 7730M are doing pretty good job at these games (F1 2012 and Dirt 3), so I'm just undecided what to get - GT 640M powered or HD 7730M powered laptop.

Unless someone happens to have used both, I am afraid Notebookcheck is your best source. Imo they are more or less equal.

The fastest Llano/Trinity is weaker than those two, but if its significantly cheaper its worth considering, depending on how long do you plan to use that laptop.

I will use this new laptop for more or less about two years. I'm gamer, but I don't care if GT 640M or HD 7730M will not run well 2013 games, because I have, as I mentioned, PC and Xbox 360. I'm concerned only about F1 2012, NFS: MW 2012 and Dirt 3 at the moment.

I'd rather spend just a tad bit more time to try and find some of the msi gaming notebooks like this one http://msi.com/product/nb/GE60-0NC.html or you could go with asus G73 and G74 series.
At least those machines are more or less smartly made that those equipped with entry level gfc's.

why are your crysis 2 and skyrim results missing? and that's from 3 whole games and you just go and say the 640 is better just like that?:shadedshu
the results were consistent with other games so i picked only 3..

Will this laptop be running strictly Windows? I don't think you will be disappointed with either option however if you decide that you will want to run Linux, I have a little more confidence in FGLRX than I used to and I've heard horror stories with nVidia/*nix compatibility and support on mobile GPUs. If the machine will stick with Windows, just go with whatever looks better to you. Maybe fall back on which laptop has other specs that are better? What about memory and the CPU? There is a lot of other things that can determine how fast a laptop is other than your GPU.

dude, do look at trinity laptops. they are a beast of a bargain at the moment.

and they will run F1 and dirt 3 pretty well. i have tried dirt 3 on a 4500M trinity and it was a lot more than i expected. you wont be able to game at max setting but its definitely worth looking into!
