From my understanding ASIC ratings are a lot like PSU efficiency ratings. Anything over 80% is pretty good.

I'm not convinced it's a "loss" until I see what holiday prices are like and get more feedback on this card. I also don't like that Sapphire only has a 2 yr warranty.

After the problems I had with the 660 Ti I just refunded, I'm not about to just go jumping on a purchase without knowing what I'm getting into, regardless of price.

Sorry. I meant to mention more. Slipped my mind somehow. I made a thread about it here. Asic rating is not like a psu. The higher the asic rating the better possibility of overclocking on air. The lower asic cards will be better with water cooling.

Asic rating is not like a psu. The higher the asic rating the better possibility of overclocking on air. The lower asic cards will be better with water cooling.

The ASIC rating is based on how efficiently the card works, which involves how much or little heat leakage occurs, so it is in fact a bit like a PSU's rating because efficient PSUs also leak less heat than those which aren't, and therefore output a higher percentage of the power they take in.

well then when the 8 series rolls in just make the switch, course you know Skt 1150 is around the corner too, less you intend on moving to a Skt 2011 machine

Also an issue.....lol, I have the upgrade bug bad...but everything is jumping another level...Ill have to look at when the next socket is due.. I think it was quarter 3 or 4 of 2013 right?

I'm guessing 8000 series by Mar, 700 series by June. Since both are reboots of the same architectures though, I'm not sure I buy some of the performance gains being claimed, esp upwards 40%. Wouldn't be surprised if it's more like 20% across a broad spectrum of games. You know both AMD and Nvidia will debut them showing only best case scenario performance though.

That said, if AMD can make the 8870 close to the performance of a 680 for $280 like some are speculating, it will likely be the best value in GPUs for early if not all of 2013.

2011 is OK, but just one semi affordable Sandy Bridge E chip for it and WAY more RAM slots than you need on most of the MBs. The MBs are also pretty expensive.

LOL, ???, did you say it wrong again? It ISN'T more than 3 slots, just barely more than 2.

I've measured it on a crop board and the shroud appears to hang out by roughly 1/3 of a slot, so it's about 2.34 slots thick.

Yeah I'm just saying 1156 and 1155 sales blew the 1366 stuff away because it wasn't very cost effective for gaming, and 2011 looks like more of the same. What you save on the MB and CPU can go toward a much better GPU. Just makes sense.

Had to RMA a GTX690 because I stripped a T6 screw. nVidia doesn't have bags of screws laying around for the 690 and they all come preassembled before hitting their board partners so I had to send it in

But yeah setup is GTX690 + GTX650Ti SSC (won't be here till 10/30/2012) as a PPU.

GPUless so I was thinking about picking up a 7970 since the 12.11 update but looking for one in the right price range.
