Hey I was thinking of getting dual monitors and was wondering how it actually works, my current monitor is connected to my graphics card (amd 7850HD). I have an hdmi from the graphics card to a dvi input to my monitor. My graphics card still has the dvi slot free. When I buy the new monitor do I just buy a dvi cable which I connect to to the graphics card into the dvi port on the new monitor? Also do i need any software?

No software needed, just plug into the DVI and go into display properties and set extended or clone :)

Depends on the game mostly but yes it's pretty easy to do with a 7850. I have been doing this or watching my TV tuner/playing a game with all of my gpu's since the 5870.... followed by 6870, 7850, and a 7870 ;)

I did this back in the day: played WoW while watching stuff(movies/series) on another display, on my laptop with just a geforce 6150 Go(6 years back).

Should be totally fine.

As long as your movie is on the 2nd monitor, I think you're fine. I used to play torchlight2 while chatting on IRC (alt-tabbing ofc).

Once you go dual monitors, going back to one is really hard getting use to. Also, the ideal dual monitor setup is using wot identical displays. It looks great on the desk and the resolution settings are easily the same. Getting two monitors that are not identical causes annoyance due to screen sizes, brightness and color clarity.

23-inch wide screen monitors are at a good price now. Samsung and Dell units look great.

If you want it for games, you better not do this approach.
It is horrible, especially for first person shooters
