Today, we will look at Fractal Design's fresh Newton R3 1000 W power supply. The press loves their cases, but Fractal PSUs haven't knocked anyone's socks off yet. Can their first Platinum efficiency unit change things for the better?

Great review as always. Really good to see such great 12V performance from a non-Seasonic unit.

Suggestion: for the Hold-up Time graph, add a vertical line indicating the 16ms mark, and colour the PSU bars by whether they pass or fail (e.g. < 16ms = red bar, >= 16ms = green bar).

hm I will check if I can do this with my scope since I have only two markers and I use both to measure the actual hold up time (I need two more to find the exact 16ms point).

But I can add a pass or fail sign on the screenshot :)

Not on the screenshot, on the bar graph next to it, like this (apologies for my atrocious MS Paint "skills"):

I'd also like it if you started being more harsh on units that fail this test. I know hold-up time isn't nearly as crucial as tight voltage regulation, but technically, any unit that fails here isn't in compliance with the ATX spec!

For the bar graphs I have to talk with w1zzard. As for the hold-up time I already remove points from the final rating, so all units that do not pass this test are affected. I mention it of course to the negatives of each unit for everyone to be aware of it.

What's so special about the 16ms mark? Is that an official mark that all PSU's sold are supposed to achieve?
