The important in this setup is to compare the cpu and the motherboard. Look online for cpu performances compare and if it's similar just go with the AMD. I'm AMD fan but if the Intel give better performances you will see. same with the motherboard with features. If the motherboard is good for you then just use the money you save to get a better AMD cpu orupgrade the video card.

Get a non "K" 2500 since you wont be able to overclock on that motherboard or get a Z68/Z77 board.

I'd go with the Intel system, but it needs a better motherboard and you could get the faster and lower power consuming 3570K for the same price as the old 2500K if buying new. And Krazy Owl, AMD FX CPUs consume much more power than Intel CPUs (applicable to LGA 1155 as LGA 2011/1366/1156 are in the same ballpark as AMD power wise), and have poor performance (especially single threaded) relative to their power consumption. I'd love to support AMD beyond their graphics division but I feel like I'm purchasing a cheap 70% efficiency power supply versus an 80 Plus Platinum unit when I buy an AMD processor these days. You get what you pay for.

I would like to say each system is a good as the other, but it would have to be Intel PC which is slightly that bit better in this circumstances though I will explain.
Without the doubt you would want the Intel i5-2500K as that CPU is one of the best i5 gaming CPUs you can have (better and exceptionally good performance in comparison to the AMD CPU) and, asides from the great overclocking potential (which is what the "K" part of the CPU name defines), it is generally very affordable too (if you are the sort of person who builds PCs).
However, the other PC (AMD) has the better graphics card and that is what makes up for most of the power in the PC for gaming, but the reason I would avoid the AMD system is its CPU is fairly old now (if I'm not mistaken at all) and the CPU uses 30W more than the i5-2500K; and the AMD CPU is weaker than the Intel CPU, especially in gaming.
While I recommend the Intel system that PC itself isn't perfect and you can do better buy replacing a few things like the motherboard (upgrade to a Z68 one at least), maybe the RAM (isn't necessary though as 8GB is fine) and possibly the graphics card (this would be the most expensive upgrade, but you might be fine with that 7850); although for what it is worth you would actually be better off doing some research and build your own PC rather than buying the Intel PC and start replacing parts and so on.

Well i have a 2500K, so may be biased. But I think it well established that for gaming Intel Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge are much better for gaming.
That being said, I don't really like either build here.
It doesn't makes sense to get 2500K and a mobo that won't overclock it. And the 7850 isn't my my first choice here.
The AMD build does have a 7870, but is base on the older Phenom II. Even though it's cheaper, I wouldn't say it was a good deal at all.
What I would do here is go with the Intel platform, but tweak your build a bit.
If you're not overclocking, go with a cheaper CPU such as a 2400, or 2120, etc. If clocking, then get a better P67, Z68, or Z77 motherboard.
And see if you can squeeze the 7870 in that build. If not, then the 7850 will do.

get Z68 or Z77 chipset for that i5-2500k and u can get it to around 4~4,6 with a decent cooler.
hmm i would properly go GTX660 / 660 Ti and call it a day, and i will recommand 2gb video ram for the buffer when u run 1080p sometimes 1gb ain't enough in most games, depending on how much beauty u want in ur pc games ^^;

The Intel based CPU setup since you mentioned you will be able to upgrade the GPU at a later date.
The 7850 is spreading it a bit thin for 1080p but none the less will be able to play games at 1080p.
It maybe able to max out Skyrim.
My setup for example runs Skyrim and Far Cry 3 at max setting on 1080p at playable frame rates.
Don't know about BF3.
Never played it.

AMD build but swap the 965BE for an 8320 and you would be pretty set for a while. As for long lasting platform the 2500K on LGA1155 is a dead socket...AM3+ is slated to get steamroller leaving a nice little upgrade in there.

That's a misleading statement. He could pick up a 3770k pretty cheap by then, and I wouldn't bet on steamroller beating Ivy.

I'd go with the AMD system only because tge.motherboard is shit in the Intel system and the AMD system is cheaper. Overclock the 965 now and it can cime pretty close to matching the stock 2500k(which can't be overclocked due to the motherboard) and put the $50 saved into upgrading to a 8320 and better graphics card that much quicker.

I wouldn't count on that. Usually once a socket is put out to pasture the high end processors for it don't tend to drop that much in price. Just look at the high end 775 processors, 9650s still go for over $200. Socket 1156 processors aren't any better, 870s still go in the $200 range.
