crystal replacement?

I need to replace a broken crystal on a satellite STB, it has YC25.000M on it, that means its a 25MHz one right? if so will any other 25MHz crystal do?

Afaik different crystals have different properties, so i dont think any crystal will do. I coild be wrong though.

I am not sure about how tight the frequency tolerance and stability needs to be (ppm value), but if you are lucky, then standard 25 MHz crystal will do. Keep in mind that different crystal model may need different load capacitor values to work correctly, so look in the crystal datasheet and select load capacitors accordingly.

not sure about that because it seems like a basic one to me and i couldn't find a datasheet on that particular one, here is a picture of it

don't know if it matters but it is a fairly "cheap" HD STB made by "fortec star"

Try to get reasonably precise part for the money and it should work. And maybe just try to change crystal and see if device works. That is not the right way, but again if you are lucky it will work. It's just that playing with 0402 size components may not be good idea if you are not done this before. Change capacitors c94 and c95 only if just changing crystal does not help.

Assuming if you do know you are using a flukemeter that reads Hz.

They sell crystals, try and find the correct one (if they have it), then change country at the top, select your country and try the search again.

for now I've removed it and will take it to an electronics shop and have the guy look for one,
@steevo, i'm not sure really but this one is used for the "cpu", i'm just a beginner in electronics, and those flukes are really expensive for me, but i did get this for a reasonable price online

Oh and i looked around the stb's board and found another crystal that's exactly the same and was for the ethernet adapter, so i looked at some spare pci ehernet cards and they all had 25mhz ones (these are my second option)
third option is i found another 25 on a dead motherboard
