I'm going to buy a GTX 680 for my work and entertainment. They have so many version of GTX 680 that make me so confuse to choose. My budget is about 500$ and I want a card best of budget. I'm usually some software as 3Dmax, PTS, Autocad, Skectup, ... (graphic software) and play games as Crysis 1+2, BF3, Assasin Creed,...
Pls help me to choose, send me answer soon because i will buy it this week.
Sorry if my english's bad because i'm an asian :)

Hi

Welcome to TPU

First things first have a look at the reviews here

-look at Third party cooling solutions and temps, power consumption and build quality
-look at max and minimum fps
-look at resolution; make sure it matches monitor
-research on the www warranty info
-make a choice and then see if it fits within budget [repeat process]

nb: If you get a chance when next logged in; go to UserCP and fill in system specs & OS

This will allow others from the TPU community to give better advice on compatibility

Yes you can lol. Well for at least sketchup. I use Sketchup with my GTX680 all the time. I even have AA forced through the control panel so sketchup doesn't have jagged lines all over! :)

OP: just get the cheapest GTX680 you can find.

Yes you can. Consumer graphics cards run those apps just fine. The biggest difference in a consumer grade graphics card and a professional grade graphics card is that the drivers are certified to work with those engineering software. I've never had any problem running autocad/inventor/3dsmax/Solidworks/sketchup with a consumer grade graphics card. I have a couple of pc's using a GT240 for AutoCAD for example... I also, have a couple of FireGL cards and they will run circles around the consumer cards, but to say they won't run those apps at all is false.

If he was using Solidworks or Inventor with huge assemblies then I would say get a pro card over a consumer card, but getting a pro card for under $450 isn't going to be that much better than a GTX680 or at lease not an Nvidia Quadro card. You can get a pretty descent AMD FireGL card for $400 to $500 bucks. :toast:

I don't think so. Previously, I was using the computer with a VGA onboard Intel G33/G31 chipset family and It still run Autocad 2007 smoothly . But it's very slow when running programs as Autocad 2013, Skecthup, 3D programs, etc. So i decided to upgraded my computer :)
Besides, I choose Nvidia 680 because I heard someone said that Nvidia perform 3d very cool. In fact, i selected AMD 7970 in the first time base on this

The last thing, allow me to say that in my country, people who is architects like me. All of them selected Nvidia for working :).

I read and tried a lot of research reviews which you give me before. But I can't understand totally and It make me so confused. Here, i have some VGA
- GIGABYTE Super Overclock gtx 680
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125437
I saw a lot of review about it. It only cost 480$ to have it. But many people say that it's quite heavy and noisy when running.
- GIGABYTE GTX680 OC
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125422
Get a lot of compliments but someone say that 3 fans of it isn't really effective. And it's a bit noisy when running continuously
- EVGA Superclocked, Signature 2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130797
I heard that EVGA is very cool at the warrantly and they have the best support. But it is in the United States. In my country, EVGA really don't be used very much. I really don't know when i have issues, how must i contact them by?
Besides, this VGA seems have many issuses about temperature. Where I live, the weather temperature is about 38*C. It's very hot plus this card if it's also hot. That is hell for me
- MSI N680GTX Twin Frozr
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127672
- MSI N680 PE
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127698
I can't find any reviews about this VGA?? :wtf:
- Asus GTX 680 OC
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121635
Like MSI GTX 680 PE. I also can't find anything about it. Only have Asus GTX 680 Direct Cu TOP a lot.
I don't know anything about OC and I also don't want to OC. I often work with softwares that I said and I only play games in 1920x1080 resolution with single monitor 23 inch. I need a VGA which has best heat sink and when it's running, it doesn't cause too much noise because I usually work at night.
If he was using Solidworks or Inventor with huge assemblies then I would say get a pro card over a consumer card, but getting a pro card for under $450 isn't going to be that much better than a GTX680 or at lease not an Nvidia Quadro card. Thanks for your advice. I also want to use Quadro or AMD FireGL but outside of the work, I want to play games, watch movies, etc. I need a card with the balance of working and entertainment. I don't go into 3d rendering too intensive. My work is only simple that draw things like house, furniture on autocad then build it on 3dmax or sketchup and render it :)

Hi

Where I live, the weather temperature is about 38*C. It's very hot plus this card if it's also hot

This is why you have to decide what you require, find all the information you can about this vga card and make an informed decision.

*In my opinion out of the cards that you have looked at

OMG i totally didnt know how to do that :D

they do support the normal cards, but that really doesnt make a difference since todays CPUs are really fast. workstation cards like firepro or quadro make a difference.

Lexias, you are from VietNam. It is hopeless for customer service of any brand there mainly because businesses have not established themselves yet. The other is because of the culture. Stop worrying about customer service and buy a reliable card so you don't have to go there. Sorry, not bashing on the country but it's the reality of things and I've lived there for a while.

You fill out your specs in your profile.

The temp is usually hot but GPUs can run at much higher than 38 C.

Question is, do you want them to? For a non dual-gpu card I find 100C way to high. A normal single gpu card should settle around 80-85c with non third party coolers.

That being said, the GTX680 DCII from ASUS is something I'm having my eye on. If you dont mind big bulky coolers that might be the card for you. From personal experience I can say the DCII coolers perform excellent! Both in cooling and silent operation.

38 C is not hot. It is normal temp IMO for a country by the equator or even cool. The problem with Vietnam is dust. Most houses are vented by windows. It's actually very uncommon to see a house built with ventilation system. Since people don't grow grass to stop erosion, top soil loss, and dust storms, you are looking at a pretty bad dust problem. The current solution is that people just pave any dirt surface with cement but that's still not a real solution but more of a lazy one.

at 38C ambient, it is pretty easy to keep your GPU at 80 or under with good air cooling solution. Where you are is probably relatively dry throughout the year so humidity is not a problem. My best suggestion to you is buy a dual fan card and have dust filters on your case.

I think you missed the point, I wasnt reffering to how you run them. It was a reaction on that GPU's can run 100C easily. Whilest that is true, I would never ever want a GPU that runs above 85C.

Lighten up man, I wasnt attacking you

Hi
This is why you have to decide what you require, find all the information you can about this vga card and make an informed decision.

*In my opinion out of the cards that you have looked at

Thanks for your advice. But I still need to think more. I don't want to OC VGA because I am afraid that I will damage it. So maybe I should choose 1 card with the best factory overcloked hmm .

According to the above mentioned, it does not matter when running in 38C. It's has more core clock than MSI. If you were me, Would you choose it? Let me know your thoughts about it. Thank you!:)

Thank you for your suggestion. Everything you say about VietNam where i'm living are correct. Dust are everywhere . As you say, maybe i should choose
MSI GTX 680 PE

It has Twin Frozr IV with Dust Removal technology on it. But i can't find any reviews about it.

Hi

The MSI [*in my opinion] has better cooling at mid range and high speed, the GPU has been selected [Binned] as a high quality chip that dose not have a high base thermal level [GPU is is able to OC without stressing] MSI GTX 680 TwinFrozr III idle 30°C under load 64°C

According to the above mentioned, it does not matter when running in 38C.
nb: 98.6°F (37°C) is human body temp; is it hotter than that where you are?

Ambient temperatures will always effect the heat on PC components, which is why PC's require fans, heatsinks and or watercooling to rid the PC of the excess heat

EVGA it has 39Mhz core clock increase this equates to one and a half frames may be three, a few points in a benchmark at best.

I cannot make a decission for you, there are lots of reviews

the monitor runs at Full HD resolution, 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz at this res with the exception of a few games you should get 60 plus fps, Saying that with a CPU at 3.30 Mhz you may get a few less fps

I have been under the impression that you wanted the GPU to be cool and run quietly as you would be working at night and that this was to be a workstation based on a GTX 680 GPU; that the gaming was a secondery function.

Except you shouldn't let Kepler cards get over 70c or else the cards speeds will drop in 13mhz increments till the temperatures are < 70c
