I've been using a G500 for a while and have grown to hate the thing. I really want a replacement that is more comfortable (Wider, more of a slope down to the keys from the palm rest) and is programmable without a horrible software layer to slow down my gaming. I used to have a Gigabyte ghost mouse that I loved the software for, but hated the shape. I went back to Logitech as a kind of default, but I've grown to loathe this mouse. Would like some input from others on this front if you're willing to share.

I have a rat 7 and love it , very adjustable in regards to weight and palm placement, comfortable in the hand, its also more durable than it looks as I have carried it with me every day for the past 7 months.

I haven't but I'm wary of Saitek stuff, I've owned other items of theirs before and sometimes doubt their designs. I guess the two of you count in a way as "testimonial" but I'm curious for more suggestions first.

I had a Saitek gamepad, burned in about a year.
I had a RAT 7, one day it electrocuted my hand slightly and it died. Not to mention the lase NEVER worked properly - it stopped working in its vertical axis quite often. Official Saitek answer: clean it! LOL. Never buy their crap dude, one day you will regret it.
At the moment I'm using a Corsair M60 mouse, great performer at a great price, but its kind of small and I dont recommend it to people who have big palms.
I still own a Logitech G9x. Best. Mouse. Ever. Big, comfortable, adjustable, perfect laser, great design and built qual. Very old model though. But tested and widely approved.

I would suggest staying away from thermaltake, I had the eSports black gaming mouse that died on me twice and then they replaced it with the theron that doesnt register my clicks when playin starcraft II.

Are you using LGS or Setpoint? if you're using Setpoint please give LGS a try. LGS uses next to no resources on my system and never has slowed anything down.

I don't plan on getting a thermaltake mouse. They just seem gimmicky rather than well engineered.

RMC makes a good point about Setpoint, which you should avoid like the plage. LGS (Logitech Gaming Software) was the program I was directed to by the Logitech website and I dare to say it is much better than @#&*%$! Setpoint.
However, it seems to me that theubersmurf has big hands unlike RMC (a female) and the fellow who writes this post (small hands for a male).

Seeing posts pertaining to hand size I figured I would chime in and say I have rather large hands (for a 5'10 male) and was actually looking for a larger and heavier mouse when I got my rat 7.

I think I'm done with logitech mice.

Anyone used a Gigabyte 6950? looks somewhat good, features I want, maybe the handshape is wide enough for me, but some negative reviews are making me think it may suck.

My hands are pretty big, it's one of the biggest concerns for this. Maybe the biggest, something that's going to end up being uncomfortable is going to be a waste.

Let me know what you get and how you like it....I've been using an old OCZ Behemoth and absolutely love how big it is...I have huge hands and It even has a spot for my pinky....I too am in search of a new mouse and I've looked at every mouse every store has to offer and not one compares to my beloved Behemoth....I really wish they still made these things...it even has weights to make it that much more comfortable to use....and no retard software either...
I'm pretty much in the same boat as the OP.

I've also been looking for over a year and nothing compares to my Behemoth....nothing...so if someone finds something similar let me know.

The R.A.T. 7 is very comfortable. You can program buttons and a second scroll wheel with software. The second scroll wheel doesn't do horizontal scroll by default (something to do with it not being in the default Windows mouse API or something), but you can program a "hack" for it (bind the sequence of "scroll lock, left/right arrow, scroll lock"). You'll need to let the software run to load custom configurations though.

If Logitech is still an option, there's the G600. It's large and wide. It also slopes quite a bit. If you can find one in your local electronics store, you can try putting your hand over it and see for yourself.

Talking about mice...

I was just talking on here about mice the other day, so strange.
I said basically I love my old Logitech G5 and still use it on one of my gaming machines.
I also use a Logitech MX518 on another machine that is pretty good and I like it, a lot.
Well... I was farting around yesterday, moving some equipment, and I have (2) 13" CRT monitors on a shelf above my desk.
I wound up pulling on a tangled cord and one monitor fell off the shelf about 24" down and hit my MX518 and I didn't realize it for a few minutes until I got the CRT back up on the shelf and SECURED properly this time.
Turned on the pc and noticed the MX518 wasn't working. AW SHIT!!!!!!!!!
The left side top index finger button was jammed. It wouldn't press up or down.
Just stuck.
So I took it apart to fix it. I pulled off the teflon pads, unscrewed the housing and gently pried her apart.
After studying her for a minute or two I decided there were more screws involved inside, second layer had to come apart. Ok, keep moviing, before you know it it was field stripped down to nothing. Looked good inside, the microswitches all clicked when pressed, I saw no broken wiring, pretty clean inside, no broken plastic pieces, etc.
However, I did find a small steel pin on my desk which had sheered and broke. For the life of me I couldn't find where it went inside the mouse.
I studied this thing for 15 minutes, no good, it doesn't seem to have a place to go.
And inside the mouse wheel plastic axle housing deep in a bore, it looked like there might be the other piece of broken steel pin but I wasn't positive. But after studying it closely it made no sense.
So I put it all back together after getting the left side top index finger button moving again.
Lo and behold, it works. It's not even dented or anything.
You would never know it was smashed.
HELL of a mouse in my book.
I am so glad right now. Hey, these older mice cost a bit of coin now on Amazon.
I think they want $140.00 US for the MX518. The G5 is even more, like $185.00 US.
That's crazy pricing.
Glad I took some time out to fix it instead of my usual "toss it and buy something new" thinking.
After reading a few things on TPU I decided there isn't much out there that would suit me anyways.

Oh, the steel pin I found was from a BNC connector that plugged into the CRT video port on the front of the tv, all fixed now.

I have a G5 at work and G500 at home. Both are stellar in my book... I never installed the software, just plug and go. My only complaint on the G500 is the pads have about worn down to nothing.

Pads are replacable. I got mine at FrozenCPU, cost = $10.00 for (2) pair of teflon pads.
Or I should say WAS... got 'em last year.
Didn't look before typing this.

Still using my original Logitech MX518 from 05'
One day while playing killing floor the mouse would sometimes stop working while I was scrolling.
Turned out to be the cable.
So I decided to try out a new mouse.

Bought a Gigabyte M6900.
I tend to grip with only my thumb and pinky finger and I have to say this mouse did not work.
It had strange angles on the right side which sloped in and felt wedge shaped at the back so it did not cater for my grip.
Also I believe I am too used to prediction whic Logitech have in their MX518 which levels out the scrolling of the mouse so it doesn't go up or down as much wen you scroll left and right.
The Gigabyte M6900 felt as if it was scrolling slightly up tot he right and slightly down to the left but more emphasis on the right.

So searched around and bought a new MX518 which felt too slippery with the new pads.
So I ripped it apart and used the cable from it to give my old MX518 new life.
