I have Pentium D 3.0 GHz, 1.6 GB Ram Should I use XP 32bit black edition or Windows 7 Ultimate, Please reply ASAP. Purpose is only gaming.

XP...no reason for that PC to have 7 Ult.

Pentium D 1.6GB ram = XP 64bit edition. But if the 32bit version is all you can find, go for it. Windows 7 or even vista wouldn't be wise to use on that Computer. I'm using XP 64bit on my quad core tho.

By the way is there a reason why you are using that old computer ?

Stick with XP. If you loard 7 it will work but some things wont (igpu will load standard VGA driver only). And it will be slow

The RAM being only 1.6GB is why I wouldn't suggest any Windows newer than XP/2003.

Stick with XP. Unless you upgrade the memory to like 2-4GB don't go to Vista/7/8

Just saying...I get it...You Have "The Prince of Persia the two thrones" or some other game like it that requires a 16bit environment to run properly...right?

In which case you want XP....
That game has a badass soundtrack btw...
I think I'll build myself an XP machine so I can play POP The two Thrones as well....

Since when is there any scenario in which to recommend XP64?

Just put any version of windows 7 on it. It will run smooth as long as you have a dual core and over 1gb of ram. Because its as old as it should get almost all the drivers via Windows update.

The only issue I can think if is if it has the 915p chipset then you will have t extract the xp video driver for it and install it manually.

Windows 8's scheduler is better than XP's, in this case as long as you have driver support, 8 will be significantly more responsive and faster to load than XP or 7.
I have successfully used 8 on systems with 1GB of RAM where XP struggled.

if you are able to find compatible drivers for 7 for that machine id definitely run it over XP. Otherwise if you cannot or get drivers working stick with XP Sp2 (SP3 breaks alot of stuff)

You better install Windows Xp. Windows 7 is not really worth it for that system and costs more.

don't use some hack disk from the internet they are riddled with all sorts of nasty stuff and you have no idea what modifications have been done. if you are going to install a version of windows just use an unmodified disk.
