Hey all.

I might get a new system pretty soon. It's all a bit shady, but I might have to pick between the FX-6300 and the i5 3450. It depends on a lot of things. Etc. Etc.

My question is therefore this:

How are the stock coolers of the aforementioned processors? I am mostly interested in their noise levels as I will try to put together a decently quiet system. If they are loud, what would be good options? I have been out of the cooling loop for quite some time.

Thanks for looking!

On my FX-6300 cpu I changed the stock cooler(on my second pc), almost any cooler form 50$ up will be more quiet than stock...

For some odd reason, my intel stock cooler collected way more dust over time. I'm using the 8350 stock cooler on my second system and i cant honestly complain about it, it's actually not that bad for a generic stock cooler.

Something cheap like ARCTIC Freezer i30 Extreme CPU Cooler - Intel, 320W Will do the trick better then the stocks fans and more quite with the right fan profile.

Also you can Overclock the FX-6300 ,you won´t get much more out of the i5 3450.

I got my 6200 from 2012 to 4.7Ghz stable, so yeah, the 6x00 processors clock well.

This is presuming the FX-6300 has the same cooler as the FX-6100.

This cooler is a step down from the cooler they combine the 8 core ones, but in my opinion better balanced.
While the cooler for the 8 cores has a higher cooling capacity, it is also alot louder, and the 6300 cooler should stay "comfortably" quite. Furthermore, it should also take a bit of overclocking, but obviously like with any stock cooler you'll need something more serious if you want to be serious about your overclocking.

I dont think you're waiting for another intel vs AMD thread when it comes to performance so I'll leave it at this!.

Edit: if you're looking for something quiet and a bit better performing, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO isnt that expensive and fairly quiet.

Pretty much any heatsink with a 120mm fan and heat pipes will perform better than stock.

the 212 gets mentioned alot, and it seems it is pretty cheap as well. Might go for it. :)
