edit: should this be in system builders? I'm sorry.
Ok I am never too good at asking for input and waiting, I just order and then ask opinion - so now I'm asking all of yours.

I haven't upgraded my system rig in about 5 years. As you can see - so this weekend I reviewed some parts and placed my order. Newegg is still my favorite shop because I have a relationship with a higher up rep and all my issues are ironed out immediately. even without that their customer service is top notch. This is my game and work computer, it gets 15 hours some days, with a minimum of 8.

Anyway, to the new Build:

Case:| Lian Li Lancool PC-K58 - Same as current for now, will upgrade down the line
Mobo:| GIGABYTE G1.ASSASSIN2
CPU:| i7-3820 will upgrade to a K when i find a cheaper one.
Cooler:| CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i
SSD:| Samsung 830 Series 128gb
GPUs:|2x GIGABYTE GV-R795WF3-3GD Radeon HD 7950 3GB Crossfired
RAM:| G.SKILL Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) for another 2x4 down the line
PSU:| PC Power and Cooling 750W I'll upgrade if necessary but I think it'll just be enough under heavy loads.

MY only question is should I have gone 1155 instead of 2011? My upgrade time is usually 5 years - both will be obsolete by then, so this is really a one time build save for a few small things if i catch them at the right price. Anyway please this way some feedback yes? :)

i would recommend a 8 memory slot motherboard, like Rampage IV Extreme, cuz if u wanna upgrade ur memory to 64 gigabytes, there is no way to do it, and u will lose one importand feature on X79, thats 8 memory slot

only my idea, 0.0

The gpu you chose for the price is great but why you don't take a cheap 120-150$ z77 mobo and the i7 3770K if you want a K cpu?

Also the i7 3770K performs better than the 3820 and the lga 2011 is not as futureproof just as the 1366 was.

Implying he requires 64Gb of system memory, even in 5 years.
I would have gone 1155 z77 witha 3770k for futureproofing for 5 years, maybe even wait a touch for the 4770k.
Graphics cards are a legit choice, certainly no complaints on my end. I like Gigabyte cards personally, though one of mine had coil whine.
Everything else seems great, just a weird (not necessarily superbad) choice of mobo and processor.
With the current iterations of memory, you can get 32Gb on that board with 8Gb modules, but i still havent gone over 8Gb on my system after overloading it with applications.

He won't need to wait for the i7 4770K since this cpu is only 10% better as it is said by the reviewers. So i would say the lga 1155 my opinion and yes it will last 5 years easily.

You could always use that spare 550ti for dedicated physx for no reason at all.
There is an edit post button by the way.
Also those 4770k "reviews" are not 100% reliable. Things change between now and release date.

I know some are not reliable but the current benchmarks that are out show that this cpu has lower power consumption and better clocks.Remember the same story was with the i7 2600K and with the latest 3770k which don;t have much performance difference.

True but there is a noticable difference, and if time is not an issue then why not?
If he wanted an immediate upgrade however, 3770k would have been the choice.

3770k didn't use a new architecture, it's only a tweaked SB. Haswell (like you said) isn't much faster but it does include some new instructions which can make it a lot faster.

Haswell will use LGA1150 IIRC.

Lets wait then till it comes out and lets see how it performs because now we really don't have many clues about it's performance.I am currently attracted to the i5 4670K and it might be my new cpu if amd won't put out a new 8 core fx which will use the sAM3+ chipset.

Please refrain from double posting. There are multi-quote and edit buttons for a reason.

Being a 3820 owner, I will say that there is no reason to get a k edition CPU on skt2011 unless you need the power of a 6-core CPU. The 3820 can overclock just fine despite not being a K edition CPU since the bclk is flexible.

This is what I'm currently running:

With this all said though, I need to know more about what kind of work you do because SB-E won't help you in a gaming arena unless you're going to be doing something really extreme. Otherwise skt1155 and upcoming skt1150 will do just fine.

I know that the i7 3820 oc's like hell man but it can't be compared to the i7 3770K just because its faster in gaming and multithreaded applications.Sry but i am new here and i really trying to figure out how it works tnx for the tip xD

it can be compared - it's all a matter of what you need. I wanted socket 2011 and the ability to upgrade to a 3770k or similar before this motherboard goes, but i wasn't about to spend the cash now. the 3820 is plenty of upgrade from my 920.

also, i went all out last time and got the D0 and a ROG Asus board along with ram for killer overclocking... I just don't get into it much. Half the time I turn off the oc for temps or fan noise or stability or just because. overclocking just isn't very important to me.

With this all said though, I need to know more about what kind of work you do because SB-E won't help you in a gaming arena unless you're going to be doing something really extreme. Otherwise skt1155 and upcoming skt1150 will do just fine.

I do a lot of gaming but it's also my work machine. that's basic coding, heavy photoshop as well as some audio editing. I'm sure it's not absolutely necessary for me to go this route - but the price difference between the 1155 build and the 2011 was less than $100, and I opted for this.

I would suggest you to wait then ,if time is not a problem, and see what the new platform has to offer. If you are not planning oc'ing the its really your choise either you get the 3820 or the 3770K.The lga2011 is an extreme chipset whereas the lga1155 is mor of an mainstream chipset. But the lga 2011 are too expensive and i think you can get an z77 mobo with the 3770K and cost you less than getting the 3820 with any lga 2011 mobo.

You don't really need an SB-E rig for that. I would wait for Haswell so rumors can be pushed aside. That way you can either get something newer or something older for less.

it's just this.....

i7 3770k + 7970 ghz or something or titan xfire/sli

or

i7 3930k/60x/70x + 7970 ghz or blah blah blah xfire/sli hehehehe

just that if you want to go mainstream just go 3770k, but if you want to go for a long ipeen just grab the 3970x with an amazingly expensive mobo with expensive stuff and be done with it.

imo I'd get the 3770K.

edit: go quad titan or vapor with 6gb and water cool these slut and you are good to go. with a nice lian li case it should be kick ass. Modded lian li + custom watercooling with 6 external 480mm rad ^_^

wow, yes, time for an upgrade!

IMO yes you should have gone with 1155 socket, as it has more flexibility. However if you wanted the ability to go 6 or 8 core (12 or 16 threads) processor, then 2011 was the right way to go. but to get your money's worth you really gotta pay a lot for a good 6 or 8 core processor. Otherwise you might as well have gotten a 1155 socket and 3770K (the best 1155 processor)

p.s. finally they added the TABLE bbcode! :D

Socket 1155 is dead. No more chips coming out for it and will be unsupported when Haswell drops in June which will use Socket 1150. So if your going to do a brand new build try and wait it out for Haswell/1150

OP: build looks pretty good. LGA2011 would be a good platform. You can get an Ivy Bridge E chip when they drop. Seems like a solid build for me, at this point if you do decide to drop down to socket 1155/1150 id wait for 1150.

Edit: Maybe run this kit of memory though.

G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR...

To run in quad channel.

then you can add another kit for 16GB of ram down the road.

Maybe switch to a lower end board to save some cash as well.

GIGABYTE GA-X79-UP4 ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg...
