Dead pixel yes or not?? Please help.

Today I was browsing some websites when I suddenly noticed an almost black spot near the top left corner of the screen.

I checked with AIDA monitor diagnostics and the color remains black in all red, green and blue solid fill.

Is this a dead pixel?? If yes, any ways to repair it?

Looks like someone poked their finger... Not a dead pixel, from my experience...

Pixels are usuall .311 > .273 in size IIRC

But it remains black and I have checked from outside turning the screen off that there is no external damage. What can it be?

Prolly the screen protector got poked and left a mark between it and the display panel, would be my guess anyways... Open it up and clean it up with some screen/glass cleaner maybe?

It's not a dead pixel from what i know. :eek:

Dumb question, but are you absolutely sure the screen surface is CLEAN?

Like ^m1dg3t shows, that is a single stuck or dead pixel.

The thing is I cannot bin the monitor. I will try to repair it because I was born in a time when we fixed things instead of throwing it away.

Whatever it is, can it be repaired?

I remember once upon a time I didn't know about dead pixel and my Samsung SGH-E250 had one blue spot on the screen from the very first. After 2 years, I got to know that it was a dead pixel and then..... LOL. Warranty was long over.

Your best bet is to clean it as best you can, if you can open the case and get between the panel and glass that would be awesome! But no guarantees, unfortunately... :eek:

Yeah I just cleaned it(and hence the long time to reply.

). The spot is still there.

I will try that. I have some experience in repairing water damaged mobile phone LCDs so it won't be a problem. Just have to get some time.

its time to get a new panel. that blotch is the liquid escaping from that portion. probably resulted from someone poking it hard, or just old age.

Hmm maybe the later because no one poked it hard. I will have a look at the light spreading media too. Its easy to open that. I repaired water damaged mobile phone LCDs that way.

UPDATE: Its not dead pixel.

When I look at the screen from a high angle like from the edge very closely, I can surely see that the pixel is lit and changing colors as I change from red to green to blue to white. The culprit must be the refractor or the reflector or something must be stuck between the glass panel and the refractor or between the refractor and the reflector.

Now to open it apart and check it. Gotta get some time.

Exactly. That's why I asked whether its a dead pixel or not. I suspect it to be an ant sandwiched between the panel and the refractor because I was seeing some ants lately. I saw dead pixels before and it wasn't like one. But then I wasn't so sure what it was until I saw from the edge with varying colors that its perfect.

Anyways, I have a fear that if I take it apart, more dust particles will enter inside and cause even more trouble since we don't have a dust free environment. What do you suggest?

Yeah its not a dead pixel. I rechecked again. When I move from left to write, the spot moves too. Had it been a dead pixel, it should have been fixed.

Well... I don't see a way to fix it. It indeed seems to be the panel itself leaking. Unless you can find a replacement panel.

Problem solved.

Took it apart. Opened the metal frame behind the panel and there came out a nasty piece of black thing at that top left area between the fiber refractor and the light spreader. I gently removed it with spectacle cloth. Then came my beloved vacuum cleaner. Switched to the blower mode and removed all dusts. Finally reassembled everything and presto. Problem GONE.
