I don't recall if I even had any grenades at that point. I don't think so, because I tried all options I could and realized I was better off reloading the level.

2033 is easy to get through even on the hardest level with no upgrades and armor once you know what's ahead, but it's also one of those games where you can get caught with you pants down if you aren't prepared.

If you mean Last Light vids, I plan on getting the game and probably won't have to refer to any gameplay vids. I don't very often get stumped trying to find ways to beat a game, even on the hardest difficulty.

I meant Metro 2033, actually. Last light is not out yet. :)

Apart from that, no problem of course.

Throw a grenade, so they will seek cover. Meanwhile you will pass them by.

Or you simply listen to their conversation, and eventually they walk forward, allowing you to go down the steps to the left and turn of the generator on the other side, then go round knifing people :D
I was lucky to realise the crossbow thing was the most overpowered weapon earlier in the game and picked one up, along with a long barrel silenced revolver. Never had any problems, even the librarians die to a couple headshots with the crossbow.

@Chev,
yeah I know it isn't out yet, but it will be fairly soon. I thought you were planning on making vids of it. I already acknowledged 2033 can be gotten through with no armor or upgrades, which is how I played it even on the hardest mode, so why would I need to watch vids of it? I've already made some vids of it myself.

Granted I've not played with the DLC yet, but keep in mind I was using no upgrades or armor, so. Any mods that ramp player weapons with enemy weapons I usually only come out better because they die quicker. If they added that with AI taking cover better and being more accurate, now that would be hard.

@RCoon,
we're talking about the spot where you're on the railroad cart and you have to silently snipe the guy on the tracks or he'll warn the others. If you don't manage that, stealth is no longer an option.

So when will this go $5?

If you mean 2033, I've seen it for 4 pounds at eBay.uk and $6 at ebay.com, but shipping to Iceland is the problem. You can get the one from UK shipped but it's like 14 pounds just for the freight.

Steam has it for $15 right now. Maybe they'll offer a 2033/Last Light bundle when Last Light comes out. I assume you usually buy from Steam?

@Chev,
just noticed I had DLed the Update 2 DLC for 2033 some time ago, so I think I'll reinstall the game and play it with that while waiting for Dead Island Riptide. Just beat Bioshock Infinite on 1999 mode and I'm kinda getting bored with RE6, so it'll be a nice break.

I see a crosshair, without the game is more awesome. And yes, at some point in future I will try to record Last Light too, albeit with Russian dubs instead of the English dubs in FPSRussia style. :D

So when will this go $5?

It has been 5 USD/5 EUR already multiple times. :)

I just realized since I played the Season Pass version of Bioshock Infinite, which gives you some valuable extras, I didn't really beat it on the stock 1999 Mode. So it's going to be a toss up between doing another 1999 Mode run without the DLC, or playing 2033 on the Rangermodes. I was thinking of skipping Rangermode Easy because it's described as not really being tougher than Hardcore.

There's so much stealth in that game though, and I never even found the better weapons like the crossbow when I beat it on Hardcore. Biomass is one spot I never liked, but I now have a PC that can play it without lag, so that should help. I might have enough time before Riptide to play Rangermode Hardcore and the default 1999 Mode on Infinite. IF I stop taking so much time to talk about games. LOL

On crosshairs, I don't see much difference there because at close range you don't need them and at med to long range I usually aim down the sights anyway.

Without CH the game is more immersive.
BTW, I think that the pneumatic arrow revolver was meant when someone mentioned a crossbow in his/her post.

Oh it's no doubt more immersive, I'd never argue that point, I was strictly speaking from a challenge point of view.

I'll def be looking to get all the best weaps I can on Rangermode. I plan to try it without upgrades and armor like I did Hardcore too. Just haven't got around to it yet.

EDITED
Did a bit more checking and apparently it was the Tihar I was using on that guy on the train tracks. Picked it up in the wrecked train car of Front Line. It's pneumatic and fires ball bearings, but not as powerful as the Helsing RCoon was referring to, which I plan to get next time. I know for a fact the long pistols with the rifle stock he mentioned are powerful too, used one on an earlier play through.

Do nort forget about the throwing knives, and in the chapter D-6 (more particularly "Biomass") the "machine gun" using shotgun ammo is very important to have (the Helsing, Volt Driver and Tihar are useless against the Amoeba nests).

If you look at the videos I posted above I regularly use throwing knives wherever stealth is an option, and I make sure I retrieve them if I can.

On the Helsing, I don't plan on keeping it that long, I'd just prefer something more powerful for that guy on the tracks and anywhere ranged stealth is useful.

Not sure what you mean by MG with shot ammo, but it's not the weapons I don't like in Biomass. I usually just use mil spec ammo since it's common by then and I don't typically spend it on upgrades.

What I don't like in Biomass is you have to time things just right or the Cpt dies.

Started my Rangermode run last night and decided to jump straight to RM Hardcore, despite them intimidating you into thinking you'll die a lot with the onscreen message. I'm only up to the start of the tunnel segment with Bourbon so far. I have about 45 mil spec ammo, which I'll of course keep accumulating and saving until I absolutely need it.

I'm waiting for Maxwell in hopes that a top shelf one of those will be just as powerful. I'm tempted by 1440p, but unfortunately it doesn't fit my one display for everything setup (32" HDTV).

Do you mean just two monitors or do you already have two 1440p ones? I take it you saw the Monoprice 1440p LED IPS monitor I posted in the AV thread? I don't think it's overclockable, but it's priced well for the quality of display it is.

Thats if thats even enough to run it maxed out. At the time the first one came out I was running dual 5850's, which was just about as good as it got at the time, and 2033 just butchered them. Hopefully it's a bit more optimized this time around.

I ran Metro 2033 on a mere GTS 250 at 1280x720 with max textures by putting it on High and editing the textures and removing the blur in the cfg file. I was getting 35-38 FPS, which is playable.

The game is not nearly as resource hungry once you disable the copious amounts of blur it has, and word is, Last Light is supposed to be much more optimized.

1280x720 also helps a lot, thats 921k pixels, where as 1920x1080 is 2.07 million pixels, a pretty massive difference. I never did mess around with the blur, but I can believe that it would make a large difference, don't understand why games use it so much these days.
