I have been using the 13.1 drivers since they were posted on the amd site, and just recently tried to install the new 13.4 drivers.
I went through the uninstall process just like I have always done, but now when it gets to the stage in the uninstall process and the screen resizes I now get a blue screen. the system restarts and I seem to be back at where I started. i've tried several times over the last few days and keep getting the same blue screen. ive tried system restore incase windows update was interfereing, but its always the same result.
ive scanned for virus, ect but nothing is found. I can play games, [company of heroes, skyrim, a mmo in beta im testing]. I can play for 6 hours or more, great frame rates, no stuttering, temps and voltage readings all normal.
any ideas on this? I have an xfx card so if its going bad I can rma it. I don't believe I've ever encountered this before and I am at a loss.
windows 7 64 bit, xfx 6870 card, amd 955 black, nothing over clocked. all drivers and updates installed except the video card drivers. thanks in advance. sam

Have you tried using this: AMD Catalyst Un-install Utility
Quote from web page:
After running the utility, a restart of the computer is required to fully remove driver files that may be in use during the uninstall process.

Then, installing the new 13.4 drivers.
Also, you may wish to give the 13.5 beta 2 a go.

Are you ocing anything?
Try with them set at stock settings.

Check your hard drives for errors.
Run a memtest for grins and giggles.
And, you may want to Turn off any A/V, Malware, etc. software.
You can, also, check for any windows updates that may have failed... look in the update history.

thanks again. I have checked hdd for errors, and there are none. nothing is over clocked. I am running memtest now, I will let it run throughout the day and see if there are any errors, but I had run memtest when I reformatted the hdd last month, and there were no errors. also I checked windows update as you advised and everything has been updated, no update failures found. any other ideas feel free to let me know, as at this point I have no clue if this could be a software or hardware problem. nothing shows up with memtest I may have to wipe drive and reinstall windows and see if that corrects it, but I want to save that as the last resort.

after running mem test for about 4 hours, it shows no errors. I will let it run all night to see if it finds something with a longer run. tried to uninstall again and still get the blue screen. I ran the chipset drivers, still the same thing. could you explain how to find the .dmp files so I can post those? sorry to ask such a basic question, but due to a medical problem I have gaps in my personal memory and I cant remember how to find the dmp files. thanks again.
what would happen if I didn't uninstall the old drivers and installed the latest drivers over them? at this point im willing to try most anything in the hopes of not having to format drive and reinstall windows. :banghead:

Try it... it should be ok, that is usually what I do, anyway, unless I have a problem.
Then I run un-install and install.

On the install you might want to try a "custom" install.

Did you try it doing the "clean startup" route?

Have you tried to do the un-install/install in safe mode?

Did you try the 13.5 beta2 driver?

yes, ive tried the clean start and safe mode unstall, same results. I haven't tried the beta drivers, as I haven't been able to uninstall the old drivers. I will try to install over the drivers without the uninstall shortly. thanks.
