770/780 from the green team or
7950/7970 from the red team.

I am not in a rush to buy but I would like to make an educated purchase based on my fellow forum members thoughts and opinions.

1. Could you guys give a pro/com reason for going with either team.
2. With AMDs 8000 series right around the corner should I wait, yes i know the theory of there's always something better around the corner but this would the only thing I would wait on, only to compare them against the 770/780.
3. Whichever i get i will be looping it with cpu from my h220 aio, so cooler isn't necessarily a deal breaker/game changer so to speak. I do like the evga water blocked 780 though.

Any thoughts and suggestion?

You should really check out reviews if you want to make an educational decision.

#2 No. If you need a card, buy a card.

#3 I don't think a single 220 aio radiator is enough for a 4770 and a GPU.. Or it's going to barely cut it.

I have read numerous reviews and I just cant really come to a solid conclusion the 780 is at the top of my budget.

2 Not a need but I do want to start gaming again on my pc I miss maxing out the detail levels and the pure fun pc gaming brings.

3 It has been done with the following...http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?285238-Swiftech-H220-Complete-Review-Part-1-of-2

not exactly the same setup but also after contacting swiftech they have stated one highend gpu should be fine without even pushing the envelope as the pump used is like 4-6 times the strength of the othe aio's.

I agree, I have an FX-8350 and a 7970 going in my H220 loop but I added an extra 120mm radiator just to make sure there was enough capacity.... I don't think the results would have been as good using the single rad. I'm also running 8 fans to make sure the heat gets out of the rig.

Well.. If I was making this choice I would either go for the 7970 and four free games or go for the 18% more performance for $350 bucks more... Okay, I'd love to have a 780, I could afford a 780 but I don't make money by throwing an extra $350 towards a card for 18% performance. I'd get the 7970 and the free games.. and to me brand really doesn't matter.

I use my rigs for crunching and folding. I ran the rig at full load (100% gpu/100% cpu) for 24 hrs and am stable at these temps @ load since then:

FX-8350 @ stock 4.0Ghz- 48-50C*
* I would expect mid/upper 50's with a Xig Night Hawk w/2x 1500 rpm fans

7970 @925 core- 44-46C*
* card came with an EK full cover block so I don't know the temps it would run on air?

I have a Sapphire HD7950 and I have yet to play a game that it can't max out at 1080p. What monitor resolution will you be running? I think that for pretty much any single display a HD7970 is going to be sufficient, and the free games can't hurt ;)

Are you open to a GTX 760? I don't see why you wouldn't be if you're open to an HD 7950; maybe you just didn't catch the reviews yet . . .

I say buy the MSI GTX 760 TwinFrozr Gaming 2 GB and don't even bother putting it in your loop. Based upon W1zard's review, the cooler on that particular card is quite good and low-noise, so there would be no need to place it in your liquid loop (this will save you money on having to get a block, extra tubes/fittings, etc.).

Also, this card should be plenty powerful for modern games maxed out on a single monitor and will probably do well even with multiple monitors for a lot of games. It looks like you just have on monitor for now though anyways. If you do add more monitors in the future though and for whatever reason decide the card's not giving you enough performance, then you can just toss another one in SLI and the total cost will still be less than a GTX 780.

edit: The only reason I'd go with an AMD card at this point is if you're willing to sacrifice some performance for the free games (either to play or to sell and recoup cost).

Which one do you have? The power color Lcs? How is the h220 holding up? How long have you been using it and did you find it difficult to initially install?

I do have one monitor right now and its not even 1080p capable, even though i could just switch it with my wifes but i think I want to buy a 1440p monitor within another 6 months or so.

I haven't actually but I feel that maybe stretching it because I do want to max everything and i think i may just want to deal with a single card even though i never tried sli, i have tried cfx and the simplicity of just running one card i think appeals to me more.

What resolution are you going to run? Even at 2560x1600, you should be able to run max settings with a GTX 760. Take a look at the benchmarks.

Yes it's the PowerColor LCS model. I've had the system up and running for only a few days but so far so good. As far as the install.... it went ok, still need to make some changes to things I'm not happy with. Also, spent more than I thought I was going to on the pieces to make the kit into a custom setup.

This was my first w/c setup and all I want to do now is make it better- gets addictive AND expensive fast :shadedshu

I know i just read your thread for it and i'm a lil nervous.

I would suggest picking up a decent card with a good air cooler on it first before investing in adding onto your H220. There are a lot of nice choices from AMD and NVidia in the $250-300 or so range that run great (7870, 7870 XT, 7950, GTX 760, etc...)

i want something last and i will be gaming at a minimum 1080p but i'm researching into buying a 1440p or 1600 resolution capable monitor with another 6 months, if i wasn't going to purchase the ps4 i would have already locked my monitor in.

The card I linked does fine at those resolutions; it's the best bang for your buck and runs very cool 'n' quiet.

The GTX 780 is the fastest but the 7970 is better in terms of bang for buck and isn't that much slower especially if you get something like the ROG Matrix HD7970. EKWB makes a block for the matrix so that won't be an issue.

You can get two Sapphire 7970 OC right now for $30 less than one 780 at Newegg, and by July, AMD may well have ironed out most if not all of the Crossfire problems. If you're leaning toward Nvidia, even one 770 is a much better deal than the whopping difference in price for a single 780.

I gotta say though, in some ways Nvidia's driver support sounds worse than AMD's lately, and it was just announced that all Frostbite engine games will be AMD supported, meaning Nvidia won't even be able to update drivers for those games until they launch.

I just picked up a 2nd 7970 a few days ago and honestly It's not too bad with current drivers!

I bought a 780 in my new Haswell rig and it's absolutely brilliant, can't recommend it enough. It's just down t personal choice in the end I suppose.

agreed. I went from a 680 to 780 and is great. granted Nvidia drivers suck right now. they will figure it out soon though. this is the first time I've had driver issues from Nvidia.

It's funny because a lot of people are insisting AMD is about to go under. If there were ever a time you'd think Nvidia could deliver a killing blow, it would be at the peak of their financial troubles. Instead AMD are the ones offering solid support. If you had told me a year ago that this was going to happen, I'd have probably not believed it.

hey erocker what are thoughts on the following
http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=186266
read my last post

It seems like 2133mhz 1.5v sticks are what to get right now. These look good: CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin D...

With 1.5v sticks you have some voltage room for overclocking... Those sticks are cas 9, so you have timings to play with too.

It's funny because a lot of people are insisting AMD is about to go under.

I don't get it. Are these people forum posters who don't know what they are talking about? A lot of people? Pretty ridiculous if you look at things called facts and reality.
