All hail the return of the 512 bus!?!?! :rockout:

These supposed specs look eerily similar to a spec sheet i recall seeing leaked way back when, shortly before the release of the HD7 series. Can't remeber where the leaked image was from but i recall viewing it in a thread here

Reviews will not be patiently waited gfor

Yeah, because we all know how much clock speed alone makes a difference...

Pixel fill rate, and floating point ops not clock speed are important.

Since they are both effected by clock speed, its already built in.

Jumping from Cat 13.6 to 13.8, Curacao 8000 series, now Volcanic Islands 9000 series? WTF, what happened to the 8000s? I thought THOSE were the jump to new architecture when they said they were skipping the rebranding?

I swear, when it comes to AMD lately, you miss a few days worth of GPU news and suddenly you're out of the loop.

Jesus, 9970 is going to be an expensive card if those specs are true, and probably hot and power hungry. Should give Nvidia some competition though, and drop their prices.

You must live under a rock. the 8000 series is a rebrand of the 7000 series, ONLY FOR OEMs. (Dell, HP, etc.)

Also they skipped drivers, because the xx.6 or 8 refer to the month of the year. They didn't release a new driver in July to make up the 13.7.

....Does anybody actually believe that these specifications are possible?

AMD waited out the 7xx series from Nvidea, so they've presumably had time to work on the 9xxx series. My problem is that AMD firing shots at Titan doesn't say anything about the ~$200 I want to spend on a graphics card, or the time before the market actually has a sufficient quantity of them.

Waiting for benchmarks and real numbers. That's the only logical response I can muster.

I hope the cards are competitive and/if they are, I hope AMD undercuts Nvidia's ridiculous 7xx series prices.

I really hope they don't follow Nvidia's lead with the new pricing structure, but I have a feeling they most likely will. :ohwell:

You are correct. These are the same specs "comfirmed" by some for the Tahiti XT replacement.

What we do know, however, is that AMD has now confirmed some of the specs of their HD 9970 chip in theVolcanicIslandsseries of GPUs -- originally due out afterSea Islands. The 9970 has been stated to operate on 20nm Gate-Last manufacturing process and aims to take the place of Tahiti; the 9970's 20nm chip boasts 4096 stream processors, 256 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and a massive 512-bit memory interface. With that large an interface, I wouldn't be surprised to see an unprecedented memory capacity to take advantage of the increased memory bandwidth; given AMD's 8GB unified memory presence on the PS4, I don't think it's too ridiculous to suspect they may take a similarly high-capacity approach to discrete GPUs

Lance Armstrong is more believable than those sources.

TechPowerUp uses BSN and S/A sources all the time but usually its by 3rd party links and couple days after the news has been reported. Lets not forget the Techsites that used 2yr old S/A diagram and reported as fact, then S/A took them to task and made them all look like lazy copy and paste bloggers.
gpuboss well I don't know much about them.

These cards will still be on 28nm. I think the 780 is reachable as performance goes, will have to see with what power consumption and heat. I think price will be slightly lower but still on the ridiculous side (550-600) and... BF4 in re-re-reloaded never settle bundle.

I like the GPU architecture releases. The CPU front's been a bit 'meh' recently. New CPU's have more cores and are a bit more power efficient, they dont come out with big cannons anymore.

The GPU's though? It's popcorn time. I would love for AMD to release such a monster chip. And if they could they would easily undercut Titan. Titan's price point is fixated to make it an entry level compute card.

That being said, I'll believe it when I see it. Seems too much of an increase over the 7970 to be believable. And before anybody waves the x% 'more this, more that' flag the specs are rumours for now.

I eagerly await the Hawaii tech showcase.
