NVIDIA Prepares Two New Sub-$250 SKUs, Price Cuts

nV shouldn't cut new SKUs/silicon but cut the prices on the existing mainstream 750/760 (Ti). The press and benchmarks have already told us how great these cards are... now just get the price down to make them irresistible. By releasing a new SKU, most people will wait for reviews to evaluate, wasting precious lead-time and letting AMD get early sales in.

Take 30% off the price now, and bundle a few games and utilities and they will shift like hotcakes.

Its for reasons like this I didn't go Nvidia last time and is the reason I wont go Nvidia this time for being too damn greedy. Its unfortunate for Nvidia am not a fanboy

I would think that the rebrand of the 7970 being a part of the new line up helps AMD keep costs down. I would expect the 280 to be fairly inexpensive since the 7970 should have already mitigated their fab costs and it should be relatively inexpensive to produce now. While I worry about power consumption/power efficiency of the 280X, selling "old" top end hardware as the new high-mid is a strategy that worked well for companies like Apple.

On a side note, it should be fun heading over to the Tom's Hardware forums and reading posts about people upgrading their 7970 to a 280X and how it's so much faster.

Edit: I just realized all of my post is pretty much about AMD. My point here is why AMD's prices are low (not sure on the 290X, most likely just AMD being aggressive). The Titan's price most likely won't ever make sense. I believe it's a fashion piece and/or statement. It's too expensive for gaming and too low performance for compute-intensive loads, only catching the small niche of people looking for a relatively inexpensive higher-performance-than-normal compute card. People who need high compute speeds, but can't afford the considerably higher performance cards.

1080p still here since 2005, and still mainstream. The power of graphics cards has increased, and the prices have fallen. 1080p gaming on a budget :rockout:
Seriously I've never thought about replacing my graphics card so early in my possession of it in all my life. I've only had my 7870 for a 17 months, and now I can replace it with something better and far cheaper :twitch:
Way to go AMD for remaing competative, so we the PC gamers can enjoy our shiny graphics for cheap. :toast:

Ill either go for the 760 or the 250 dollar gpu after the price drops.

Am hoping it will be faster and more efficient, unless they go for outright speed over power.

..which they may do in an effort to keep prices down. As much as I'd like to see an increase in power efficiency, I'm not sure there's much to squeeze out without any expensive changes. Should be interesting to watch this unfold.

30% ... would love to see a gtx 760 at $175 but not going to happen, not soon enough that is; maybe next year.
Agreed, if anything 760's will see 10% or 15% if lucky reduction on more the reference or regular AIB stuff... nicer EVGA ACX SSC, Lighting, etc. will hold $240-250. To get close to R9 270X for $200, Nvidia will make AIB's work stiff rebates (~$30).

What arrangement could they still pull from a GK104 to make a GTX760Ti? How many other geldings could they have been binning, and at what volumes to really make something that makes a enough impression on to truly lower pricing stack, something with limited number won’t achieve that. Probably just going to re-brand the 670 as GTX760Ti, for $270 just to hold the 760 in a better light.

Face it, do you ever recall Nvidia pricing actually being par with AMD in the weeks/months after such upheaval. Even when the 4870 released and walked on the GTX260 Nvidia soldiered on with "a stiff upper lip".

I can replace it with something better and far cheaper
What new card are you thinking would make that a great upgrade?

They are a business out there to make money. I don't see much of a problem with dropping prices and then releasing a few cards to fill in gaps here and there to be competitive.

Depending on how the Prices are, I'll either add a second 760 ... or possibly just buy either 2 770's or 2 760Ti's and use my 760 in another rig.

Well its about time NVIDIA think about their prices....

with AMD keep pulling down their prices, at some point they will make alot of money...

Nvidia is somewhat "force" to cut down their prices.

way to go AMD...

competition is good for consumers...

It seems like nVidia's had a "The price justifies the price" attitude towards their cards, again, like Apple.
