Laptop trackpad/touchpad acting up

It's clicking and moving by itself when I try to do anything. for example when I try to move my mouse it'll highlight text or when I move the mouse up it goes left and then up.

Is this a driver issue, if so how do I fix this?! it's not permanent either because sometimes it works fine

The times I've seen that it has been faulty touchpads. Depending on the model, they might be pretty cheap and easy to replace.

It's a gamble with these things. It can be a good refurbished and faulty new one

I wouldn't call it gambling since the vast majority of both refurbs and new machines work well. The gamlbing part is getting a faulty one.

Yeah true but mine didn't have a one year warranty like it would if it were new. I got it on Newegg and had it brought back to the UK

try to uninstall the driver first, could be from that

my laptops touchpad sucks ass so i went and bought the zalman in my sig and havent bothered with the touchpad since. My issue was driver related so i just disabled the damn thing in bios and with usb detection in software package

yeah I reduced it a bit, but I don't like it too low when I have to poke the trackpad to get it to click.

edit: I tried reducing it to the lowest possible setting but same problem

if you are familiar with dismantling laptops, i recommend you to take a look at below the trackpad (inside the laptop).
i faced similar issue with asus netbook n when i remove one spacer (there was originally 2 spacers) trackpad usability improve significantly.
