I think you would be making a mistake if you sold your titan. If you're going to spend any money then get another titan even if it's used, otherwise just keep the one and wait for the next gen cards.

So what did you do to your 7950s that warranted both of them being RMA'd?

Didnt try throwing them under a school bus or creating a new habitat for your goldfish at the bottom of your fishpond or goldfish tank did you? to RMA BOTH cards at the same time while not unheard of is still a little extreme (unless a bad PSU blew up and killed both of them at the same time)

I hope your avatar is your girl friend ;) :twitch:

i will say keep Titan and try to find another Titan with a good deal, SLI better than crossfire

I just sold my Titan for $650 (and got it) to buy two R9 280x's. That was a week or so a go.... well a lot has happened since then. I would say with the way things sit...$550 to $475 is a fair price depending on (Condition, Model, and so on..) of the card.

You can currently buy a brand new GTX 780 for $430 if you know where to look.

Personally I too would keep the Titan, if i really wanted something faster, I would go for the straight 290's (non X) when they are availabale shortly, they will be cheaper, cooler, quieter than the X with little loss in performance (allegedly), on top of that, looking at the power draw of the 290X arguably you may be starting to push your PSU, I only say that because at 315 watts per card without overclocking is significant add to that an 8 core CPU and the other stuff and you start to get close...... you would have room but not a huge amount.

I would get a 2nd used titan. I'm pretty sure with the release of 290X and GTX780Ti nobody will buy Titans and the available used ones will be worth below 500GBP for sure. Not to mention SLi>Xfire.

Overclock Titan to 1Ghz, congratulations, your Titan now outperforms a 290X @ 1Ghz with less heat, and less noise.
There's a fella on Gumtree selling two Titans for £1000. That's £500 each.

Well for a few weeks at least..... and at that point the Titan could be even further behind.

Well I certainly wouldn't sell a Titan because of the wake of 290X honeymooning. I know my Gigabyte OC performs better than a reference 290X, cooler and quieter. I don't honestly see the point in selling cards and buying new ones because of 1-10% at best.

Funny thing is, given the power of a single Titan or a single 290X, crossfire or sli of either is overkill for anything under 4k or single monitor.

It depends on why you want the power of 2 x 290X. Arguably, a second Titan will give the same performance for less heat, noise and power consumption. There is also the pit fall of the noise and heat of crossfire (or sli). But crosffired 290X's are a problem for heat generation and performance.

I'd sit tight until the AIB's come out with better coolers for the 290X or get water blocks and go that path. But again, with water, a Titan should hit 1100 comfortably.

I've actually started playing on stock volts and about 1006 core on my card as it handles BF4 (beta) very well at 1440p ultra settings (50-80fps)

I agree, but there is a reason why people still bought/buy Titan's over the 780 with such a big price difference for a perceived small performance gain which is the same reason why some folk will buy a 290x, but as you have said, if you already own one there is little point but many enthusiasts still will.

From what I have seen in some of these threads, some members are going to have to think up some other reasons why not to buy a 290X when it does appear with custom cooling so runs cooler and therefore faster, comment not aimed at you, it's just the way things have panned out in the past, at that point we will start to see some disliking the PCB colour, some disliking the images on the coolers, some the packaging blah blah :)

Thanks to everyone for advising me!
At this point i'm thinking of keeping my single Titan, buying a 360mm watercooling kit from EK + a waterblock for my card, and eventually buying a 1200w psu and a used Titan. I'm very happy with Nvidia (except the price), and i like to see my Titan doing 980mhz under stock bios while keeping temps under 81ºC.
I'm very grateful for your help, i surely have less "monkeys" in my head now!

Just to note, my two 780's when watercooled never went above 34 degrees and both hit 1200mhz core ;) Have fun with Titans.

I had titans under water and even with it on the same loop as my heavily overclocked i7 3930k I never saw temps rise above 45c (Stress test) and 40c Gaming @ Clocks of 1200 Core 1650 Mem.

So you goal of it staying under 81C will easily be obtained unless something is seriously wrong.

Crossfire is "broken", assuming you are talking microstutter, only with CFx and multi monitor configs. The issue was resolved or mitigated considerably months ago on single monitors.

anyone who buys a pair of 290x or a pair of titans for 1 monitor should have their credit cards confiscated. and this is coming form someone who spends thousands every year on computer hardware.
