Budget Gaming Rig

I just sold a bunch of computer parts around my house and got a budget of around 350 bucks for the mobo CPU and RAM. i was looking around newegg and i found some stuff that i was lookin into and wonderin what i should get.

the corsiar is 1.9 v while the patriot is 2.2v i was thinkin on the corsair and just volt it up and get the 4-4-4-12 latency that way.

This progect will be overclocked also so i also would like some feedback on weither or not the 4600+ is a good OCer. Another possibility is goin intel E6300 but i donno if i could afford that with the high mobo prices. Let me know on what you think i should do

great setup, but what about getting the combo with the x2 3600 65nm
it will overclock great too, the ram go for the patriot since it can take more voltage safely, what about gfx?

you said about mobo prices, get a asrock dualvsta board, it will run that e6300 and still should give you a nice oc af around 2.7, btw what grfx card do you plan on putting in ?

personally i found from 3.4 ghz down to 3.0 ghz.. didnt change much if anything for my frame rates.. it did however throw my heat levels through the roof. maybe it would of helped had i not been so hot. but the most important thing you can buy is your video card.. and good cooling.. a 3.0 oc'd cpu or even 2.8 would be plenty fine.. it's the core of that video card thats gonna make or break your frame rates.. of course you have to make sure you get decent gear, but what I have seen from overclocking this gts 8800 320 is that the video card makes almost all the difference.. idk if the 640 is even worth it...lol.. if you want to get a good deal buy the 320 mb and get a better mobo or cpu.. thats my 2 cent anyway.. but remember "cooling" this thing runs very hot.. I hope you have a full tower case lol.. or your in for a tight fit.. but happy hunting man.. gl with it all.

I agree with D007, the biggest factor in a gaming machine is the graphics card. Instead of new mobo and ram, buy a $250 graphic s card.Ram helps too (2gig). going from a x800 a X1950xt or a 7900gs will blow your mind.

buy a $200 card and another stick of the RAM you got and your ready to rock for another year at least, maybe two.

yea.. scratch the cooling.. you can make it work with about 4 fans.. i did it with 2 120 mm's and 2 80 mm's stable at 55-60c cpu.. it's the video card heat thats a real factor but it's designed to run hot.. dont worry when you see it idling at 55c, it's completely normal.. and expect it to run at like 70c maybe even 80 ( i havent tested my heat while running. It always cools down before i get to nvidia monitor once i leave the program)..lol.. this card is just plain and simple a beast.. but i agree, get the ram.. 2 gb ram total and the video card and youll be happy as you could be.. and you get bragging rights about your bad arse card..lol.. seriouosly.. the ram was the idea to go with here.. ram and video card.. if you really wanna kik into gear get the gtx video card and the ram.. thats it.. like i said running 2.8 or 3.0 really makes little difference. it's all the card and the ram... all in the core.. the higer you can get the cores, the more fps your going to see. but be careful.. again I can't stress this enough, watch those heat levels.. if you need to mod your case, do it.. you better have at least 4 fans in it if your going to use this video card.. i even turned one of my fans around on the side of the case to point directly at the gpu.. i leave the case off though, it runs alot cooler, but i leave the fan connected and pointing at the gpu and cpu still.. helps alot.. alot alot.. i went from 62c to 55c from doing that alone.. and removing anything that obstructs air flow.. any little vents or anything in front of the fan etc.. get rid of them, grates, all of that.. poof be gone with it.. Good luck with the rig..

when i seen the case situation i laughed....i got a fulltower full server antec case (its a tank ) it barly fits under my desk lol and for cooling...i got 2x120 1x92 2x80 and got 2x40mm blowing on the topside of the graphics card...at one time i was putting fans were i could get them neways i noticed on newegg the 320MB version is 259 now so i think im goin with that one. and i do have 2 gigs of ram now i just forgot to update sig

also one question is on this setup for graphics or CPU:

I don't see any question..lol.. if you mean which one should you should put the cooling on.. it depends on how much your going to OC the cpu.. oh bullcrap lol... you can cool the cpu with fans.. if you go liquid cooling cool the gpu.. it needs it more than anything..

you can safely oc that cpu to about 3 ghz without worrying about cooling at all with all those fans.. ( i don't know amd voltage specs sorry.. but im at about 1.45v on the cpu core. ) i'd maybe 3.1 even.. rule of thumb is don't break the 60c mark but if you just kind of step into the 62c mark and go back down into the 50's still it's more than ok.. intel anyways says that for my chip 65c is warm but safe... 70 is hot... but the optimal performance level may be decreased by 65+c temperatures.. i recommend keeping it below 60 as best u can.

the asrock dual vsta mobo has a 4x pci e slot found that out when my cuz bought one and stuck an xfx 7900 in it lol

I'd say watercooling is always a good idea.. but I would still have fans to circulate the air regardless. you can't go wrong with a good water cooling system as long as it's not incompatible..lol..
