COD: Ghosts 720p Upscaled on Xbone but Native 1080P on PS4

That's the developers fault though, i bet they barely put time into each of the ports, I'm 100% sure that it could run COD ghosts in 1080p with the graphics they have achieved. For a next-gen game it doesn't even look that good on either console. Take a look at Killzone Shadow fall, now that's a real next gen game.

I will be getting a Ps4 because in my opinion it's simply better value for money. Someone mentioned that the Wii sold the most units, it was also significantly cheaper. The xboxone is £100 more expensive, completely different argument. I hope both do well though, there needs to be competition, and i will get a xbox one eventually for exclusives like Halo 5 etc.

Until now "Native resolution" was related to your SCREEN, not to the game or to the computer or console...... or?

The native resolution applies to many areas, it is just most commonly used with panel resolutions.

Native resolution usually means physical pixels on a display. A CRT doesn't have physical pixels, for example, so it doesn't have a "native" resolution but they do have a "recommended" resolution where the picture quality will be the best the display can handle.


If they're using the term "native" correctly, that should mean there is no upscaling to achieve 1920x1080 and a minimum of 24 frames per second.

Microsoft is focusing more on control, like Wii did that made it hugely popular, and less on graphics. Time will tell if it pays off.

Was this something Microsoft stated? This is news to me then that they announced they were going for control over graphics. In fact all I've heard them say is how awesome they feel their visuals are and of course how awesome the Kinect is as well.

Slightly related, a hands-on with the Xbox One.

Overall, my short time with the Xbox One's system interface made me eager to try the system out in my own home and see if its voice commands and multitasking features could actually make Xbox One the only input I need on my TV. Before the demo, I was leaning toward "no" as an answer to that question, but now I'm leaning a little closer to "yes."

I sort of like what I'm seeing there actually. It will never be for me, but if I had a family and a TV and played games on a console and used technology that way i'd be interested.

The practical power difference between the two consoles is around 15% in favor of the PS4, which is also easier to code for, which is why we'll see this exaggerated disparity early on. In the long run people won't notice.

wait is 1440x900 even a standard HDTV size?! lol. regardless of personal preference I cant say that its all that surprising unless you are infact a blind CoD fanboi the hardware specifications make it clear that the PS4 is a more powerful machine. Their will always be differences in programming and optimizations between platforms and therefore always differences between the same game in a multi platform environment. I am honestly surprised that people still get bent out of shape about it. I must be PC to the bone to completely ignore everything about them besides hardware specifications I could care less what controller is used by a 13yr/o to bash my brothers grandmother while being "360 noscope 420'd" from across the map no less.

Xbone has 32 MiB ESRAM which is about the same performance of the GDDR5 in PS4. I think that's going to compensate for DDR3's slower speed quite substantially.

What people don't talk about is the fact PS4 uses GDDR5 for its main memory. Yes, it is higher bandwidth, but it also more susceptible to error and has higher latency. The GDDR5 may be a boon for PS4's GPU component but it will cripple the CPU component. Microsoft took a similar approach with Xbox 360 and it worked well; the same should be expected of Xbone.


I think it's the shader difference that is translating to higher resolutions. Xbone has nothing to compensate for that difference except (maybe) higher clockspeeds but that isn't clear yet.

Yeah, 32 MB of fast RAM is going to compensate for the 5 GB of slow RAM... seriously, have you seen the size of textures lately? They might be able to get a whole 2 textures on there.
