The 760's I bought have 4Gb VRAM EACH! :D.

Furthermore, there are no new 780's being made. What's left is what's being sold so in 6 months time there may very well be no more 780's left and judging from the fact that in a few days the AMD R9 290X will be released, it will drive Nvidia prices down even further thereby making the 780 Extremely attractive and before you know it, no more 780's left and you would not get your second card to SLI.

If there's anything I've learned about using dual card solutions it's Always buy local, NEVER mix different brands together and always buy both cards at once. It just saves so many headaches down the road. I learned my lesson trying to crossfire two identical AMD GPU's and VRAM cards from different brands. Never again! For me it's buy it all at once or accept the single card solution.

I actually like sli...

and i think pabloottawa made good decision with 2 sli. And totally agree with you, buy too same at once ;) because, get that second down the road never works, you are always thinking about new generation and selling first one. just my 2cents..:toast:
would be nice too see some benchmarks, and btw what was the price difference?
2x 760 4gb vs 780
enjoy your cards

The GTX780 I wanted and was available would have cost:

709 + 13% sales tax. Total would have been 801.17

Price per GXT 760 = 319

X 2 cards = 638

638+ 13% sales tax = total of 720.94

2 GTX 760's 4Gb are better, stronger, faster AND cheaper than one GTX 780 3Gb

I'll run some Benchmarks as soon as I can.. What benchmark programs would you like to see run?

I really like them and I know that I promised to put up some benchmarking results here but to be honest I really don't know how to do a good benchmarking test. I know that's just an excuse for being lazy so I'll put up the intro mission to BF4 which was INCREDIBLE by the way. I feel DICE did a great job with BF4 and really listened to the BF enthusiasts with regards to their gripes about BF3.

I'll do it tonight or tomorrow night and post the results. I know I have fraps kicking around here somewhere.

Reading this thread....OP don't you wish you would've waited til' after the price drops. I may pick up another hydro copper or just buy a 290/x and just go single in each my rigs.

Nah,

I've done the wait for price drop and scramble game. It's not worth it for me seeing as how in Canada, a price "drop" is not as fair as it is in the US.

For me here in the US the lowest I have seen a good one go for is $500. I already own a hydro copper, I may pick up one more. Seeing as how i just bought a 840 pro and the netgear nighthawk and a wd passport...the wife may oblige.

I'm not sure where you got that no more 780s are being made, that just plain isn't true. They will continue to be made well after the new cards come out Q1 next year, nVidia uses the same chips for most of their lineup (they take the best ones for the high end and then trickle down). Thus you can still get many of the 600 series GPUs and those have been discontinued for quite some time.

With the price drop they are going to sell a lot of cards but you make it sound like there is a danger of selling out. It's highly unlikely that these cards will become scarce in the next six months, especially with the 780ti just being released next week. I'm ordering mine once the specs are announced for the 780ti so I can make my final decision between 2 780 superclocked and two 780ti.

Yuuuup!

There is a danger FOR ME. If I bought just one GTX 780

1. It would cost more than 2 GTX 760's
2. I would have to wait another year to fit a second 780 into my budget. Will they be around in ottawa in a year????? Doubtful.

Maybe it's available via mail order but I prefer to buy locally when it comes to video cards.

LOVE THEM!!!

In BF4 on Ultra with latest drivers I'm getting anywhere between 60 and 200 FPS... It may get better than this but not by much. Also, in the heat of battle I hardly hear the fans running even though they are running at high RPM and a little loud.

One thing though, get the fans running at full speed when you first buy the cards so that you can hear if the fan shroud is making contact with any of the fans. I had that problem with one of the cards and had to exchange them (likely to happen when you have a fan shroud tightly molded to three fans). BUY LOCAL!!!!!!!!!!!

Also a question you might be able to help me with, psu. Yeah sure they say they require 500w each. What is their ACTUAL power draw? (just if you know)

Cheers

Hey guys,

Sorry it took so long but I finally got my ass in gear and ran a benchmark. I used Unigine Valley Benchmark 1.0

Here are the results with basic and extreme HD

Not to be a downer, but you would have gotten similar scores from a single 780 overclocked. You'll be able to get them later too, like I said a couple months ago when you posted this thread: even a year from now these cards from the big brands (especially the cards like EVGA classified) will be available. I'm not sure why you think you wouldn't be able to get one, flagship cards have much longer shelf-lifes than normal cards. I'm glad you like your cards, I just would have gone with one single powerful card over an SLI setup. Still a respectable score.

Benchmark Scores They're good!!!
Yeah I know...... Don't care. With 4Gb of VGA RAM I know these babies are hiding some muscle somewhere.

I also don't believe you.... Why? The EXACT same benchmark with the EXACT same build is not out there. Does anyone have a similar system build with a GTX 780?

Also, I'll bet anything that at much higher resolutions these babies will show their true power and blow a 780 away.

Aithos, trust me, in a year these cards will be long gone. Stores and websites will post incredible sales on the cards to get rid of old stock and it will be a fight and a struggle to get another wind force GTX 780. No thank you. You can do the dance of chance if you want. I'll stick with what I have.

Benchmark Scores n/a, system being built this week

There are tons of people who have similar systems to yours, I would wager you can google a comparible benchmark within a couple minutes. Also, you can still buy 600 series GPUs and it's been well over a year since they released, the only time you run into stock issues is if you buy a mid level specialty sku. For instance, I bought an EVGA GTX 260 FTW edition and they ended up replacing that SKU so I couldn't get another. That wouldn't happen with something like the EVGA GTX 780 classified because it's the flagship of EVGA's lineup. Sure, you might run into issues getting a 760 or 770 later, but not a 780...even with the 780ti it is too big a part of their price lineup. Even when the 800 series comes out the 780 will have it's little niche in the cost lineup.

Also, higher resolutions won't be better for an SLI setup than a single powerful card. Just because you have two cards doesn't double your VRAM, two 760s won't blow away an overclocked 780 classified. Especially if you went with a custom cooler and not the reference blower (does the 760 even have a titan cooler option?). The top card will be significantly hotter and even if you overclock the two cards will sync to the lower speed of the two. Trust me, that's how my cards work.

There is no dance of chance, a 780 classified is either as powerful or close to two 760s, you don't have to worry about SLI scaling or constantly updating drivers. A single powerful card is always better than two less powerful ones, that's what the consensus advice is on nearly every tech forum ever. If you can't afford two of the best card, just get the single best card you can manage.

Again, you're welcome to do whatever you want, and I'm glad you are happy with your cards. I'm just trying to make sure you understand why I gave you the advice I did and why I wouldn't have done what you chose. It's your money, you can burn it for heat if you want, it's not mine to spend. But regardless, what you did goes against conventional wisdom, so you aren't going to be able to justify it to us because we don't agree you spent your money the most efficient way possible.

Just because you have two cards doesn't double your VRAM...

In case you missed it, he did buy the 4GB 760's so the fact that the VRAM doesn't double is a non-issue......carry on.
