Why not make a thread about this? And if you want a post in your thread, why didn't you provide a link?

For me, it's nice to see how mechanical disks are progressing with high density platters. Anyway, a good info for anyone in the market for new disk.

Twas a joke, and no link needed really. It's on the front page of the hard drive section and I think he has posted there once before...

That's an unfair test. You have only 2200GB of the 3000GB partitioned. That means that the 800GB of innermost sectors could be excluded thus making the HDD seem faster than it really is. It's a crude way or short-stroking.

oh wow... how did he do that, HD tune is supposed to read the whole raw drive with no partitions... but here it looks like the whole OS sees a limited size drive, as if the bios is doing it

regardless, 200mb/s is pretty hot

No its not. Its a glitch with HDTune. It only shows 3 Tb drive as 2 Tb. It just to show how platter drives are progressing and that WD Blacks are not that fast

Hold on Ill get you another test. Satan I was going to post it in your thread but haven't got around to it

The problem is that even if it is a bug with HDTune and not your fault, the results are still inaccurate. You should use a different program.

HDD sectors are numbered from the outside of the platter inward. If the program is only using the first 2200GB of sectors, then the slowest 800GB of sectors are excluded. Your maximum speed won't change, but the average speed and minimum speed will be too high and access latency will be too low.

Both tests he used are quoting only the best case scenario, ~200MB/s. This is a much better chart of the drive.

1TB platters are pretty good though. I happen to have 1TB version of this disk somewhere, and thinking about it it could make great data drive.
