i have the laptop ready its just a bare install with LAN and Video drivers.

the plan is to run wireshark and dump all the logs to a usb flash drive and il record a video of the screen.

i forgot how quick a pre sp1 xp install is!

Please please install every toolbar you can find.

Also you need to have Wild Tangent installed. Thats like the ultimate system fuckerupper. I used to find this thing on every windows xp computer and it was such a nasty piece of spyware. Seemed to slow the system to a crawl.

Viewpoint media player is also a good choice.

Just make sure it has a public IP address and no firewall. It'll be hacked soon enough. Remember that a lot of infections show no outward sign of anything wrong so it could have been nailed already.

You can try installing NetMeter on it to measure network activity. It will be quite unsettling to see it ramp up without you having done anything.

It had a cable direct from my cable
Modem and ethereal running so I could see packets in reatime and the task manager up showing
CPU usage.

The only thing it kept doing was sending aks asking who is ip addresses for other wan addresses on my ISP like it thought it was on a LAN

the cereals dot ws (intentionally misspelled) site would be a good one, it took out a computer of mine at one point with windows xp. FWIW I pay for software now, but those sites are great for getting viruses. Best thing was it installed a fake antivirus program and removed mine plus set up full shop with a big wallpaper that says "VIRUS DETECTED URGENT !" lol it was great.

Best virus I've ever had. Totally hung the system, slowed to a crawl, popped up an endless quantity of VIRUS DETECTED messages, was hilarious.

I was due for my monthly reformat.

I reformatted instantly.
