Well last night I was having a benching session and I have a wattage meter form the wall socket to the power supply.

I'm using a Corsair HX850 and the highest I seen it go was around 850 with two 7970's clocked hard.

Well I'm now using two R9 290's in crossfire and I was seing wattage draw of 1050 and at I believe the highest I did see the meter read was 1058 watts.

This to much for this HX 850?

Also What brand on modle would you all recommend?

Is a digital psu a good choice over the standard type of PSU? recommend

This is what I'm looking at but are there similar ones from different manufactures of this digital design?

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX40937

And will that size fit in my Corsair 650D?

Way too much for an 850w PSU. Any particular reason it has to be that specific digital design?

You're pretty much good to go for years to come by getting an AX1200i or the original AX1200* :toast:

* Corsair even sells pretty nice cable sets, available in a variety of colors, for both models! ;)

I had mine in a Corsair 350D Fractal Arc Mini for a little while and it fit in that one! (will add a pic later if I can find it)

Pulling over 1KW tonight boys, Is it true a HX850 is really a re-branded 1000W corsair unit?

@Norton I cant have a psu that has the fan blowing into the case. Gawd I have have enough heat from my second 290 heating shit up with the case closed. I forgot to enable ULPS last night and holly hell batman the air coming out the top of the rad this morning was killer. I need a big psu with bottom air draw, not one that vents into the case!

One with fancy led display and led lights showing wattage and such would be sweet!

iirc the psu fan is an intake fan and the heat is exhausted out of the back. I generally mount mine fan side up so I don't have to deal with clogging up a dust filter under the case- psu mounting (fan up/fan down) is a user based decision ;)

Fun fact- according to Hardware Secrets, the Corsair HX1000 is actually 2x 500w psu's spliced together :twitch:

agreed with the mentioned 1200i from corsair.

or the evga 1300 supernova g2

or the rosewill lightning 1300w (cheapest option out the 3)

all have great reviews from jonnyguru

I would recommend a Corsair PSU - even though i've had some issues with my original purchase (their RMA service is fast) have had no problems since

I agree with @Norton due to the fact that he knows this stuff, and it lines up with on my own experience.

The HX1000 is an amazing psu! I bought mine used, and then used it for years, never having any issues.

Just recently upgraded to an AX1200, the very one in Norton's pic I believe, and it too is fantastic, more efficient than the HX1000.

I personally really like my Seasonic 1000W Platinum. It's a little expensive but it's worth every penny. It's one +12v rail of awesome.

@crmaris 's review on it seems to be pretty favorable as well, sans the price. Granted it was cheaper when I bought it.

If you don't cheap out on it you could probably get away with it. The 850w PSU is evidently spec'd higher than the label says. Most seasonic units are more capable than what they put on the label (which is how a power supply should be.)

The other thing to remember is that the psu is rated on the DC side so the AC reading will be higher anyway.

How much heat are you exhausting from the psu at full load?

No, the 1000w version is 2 450w PSUs taped taped together. The hx850 is quite a bit different and better. get the ax1200i

Get Evga g2 1300 and save some $.

I agree. From the johhnguru review of that psu.

Holy guacamole. Under 15mV on all three main rails throughout load testing. Pardon me, I think I need to go squee like a little girl getting her very own pony for a while.

This is, again, beyond excellent. This is also better ripple suppression than that big Seasonic I just namedropped. Think about what that means. Seasonic is close to getting toppled off their throne, at least at this power level.

I have had my AX1200 for a couple years now and would definitely recommend it (or the AX1200i).
