Do you think by PS5 time disc-based data will be deprecated, and when you buy a game you'll be buying a small flash card (kind of like SD card or something similar, maybe something proprietary)?

No. Physical storage media is dead for the most part. If anything it will be online distribution.

This. Simple as that. We are already seeing the move from physical media to online streaming, and digital downloads.

Only thing that is holding it back right now is internet speeds, not everyone has the kind of bandwidth to properly stream and download in reasonable about of time.

Wrong. Physical media will NEVER be dead. If physical media dies I will stop using the devices entirely.

What makes you think that physical media, more specifically optical, won't die? Its already on the decline. Proof is all around you.

I agree; actually, fully-digital media will INCREASE pirating. It's easier to distribute an already-digital file than it is to rip a bluray disc and upload it (easier as in taking less time).

Skidrow, Reloaded....

The same goes for movies. You can download a AAA blockbuster in full HD with DTS/DD weeks before they are released in certain regions. Do you think these pirates in Russia and China are going out and buying physical copies, ripping them, converting them and then put it online to d/l? Nope, they are hacking into the servers and stealing (copying) the digital files!

When you say "physical" do you mean optical media? All storage is technically "physical".

I have to agree with @erocker on this one. Optical media is definitely dying out but I don't think flash media is the alternative, it's still too expensive to mass produce in comparison to optical media and rotational media drives with respect to storage capacity.

When it comes to content delivery though, you can't win against high speed internet imho.

That second part is huge. The United States has been fighting an uphill battle against ISP's to ensure Net Neutrality and continued development of internet services. It's hilarious that for years they insisted not enoughpeople needed higher speed internet so there was no need for increased bandwidth, then when everyone and their grandmother started streaming Netflix suddenly they don't have enough to go around. Until there is meaningful Net Neutrality laws in place don't expect to see massive strides in department of ISP's, because they don't want to cut into their service which essentially prints money.

"an" being singular. So I guess your poor grammar was the issue, not your hardware skills.

An array is a single thing. My grammar was just fine if you look at my posts and not ones that don't belong to me.

Two fails in a row by you. Keep going please.

Why the hell did you raid ONE hard drive???

LOL. he is using an array of those specific drives. Though, when i was working at Microsoft we set up single drive RAID0 arrays on certain machines all the time. So it can happen, and there are reasons to do it.

He never said one hard drive. He said he had an array. @vawrvawerawe was mistaken.

This is true, though first time i read it, sounded like he said one drive also, till I had to read it again, and more carefully. Sorry high person moment lol.

Editted previous post to what i actually meant to say.

I think someone needs to read the Forum Guidelines again! Stop trying to be a smart ass, as you can see, people don't appreciate it. It wouldn't take a lot of investigation (checking his system specs) to see what he was talking about.
Forum Guidelines said:
Be polite, if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all. This includes trolling, continuous use of bad language (ie. cussing), flaming and insulting others.

I've been happy with my SSDs in RAID-0, but I need to continue to experiment with stripe size again. I'm running a 4k right now but even though it feels responsive, some benchmarks are poor and others are exceptional. I'm due to reformat too so maybe I'll try something like 32k or 64k.
