Anyone got a link to a list of nvidia rebadges in for the past three series(back to 400s)?

The wiki lists the 600/500s but stops there.

There weren't really any rebadges for the 4xx series GTX GPUs. nVidia refreshed complete line for the 5xx series.

Hi Slizzo, do you mean as in skipped over ?
I know that a good chunk of the 600 were 500/400 rebadged.

I am trying to get an understanding of what's good value. There's so many cards in the mix at that end of the market.

When nVidia first released Fermi cards, they filled out their whole lineup with new GPUs. When nVidia released their 5xx series Fermi GPUs, they had better thermals (not great, but still better) and thus refreshed their entire lineup (to my memory).

I don't believe any of the 6xx series cards were rebranded Fermi chips. I think it's all Kepler from top to bottom.

EDIT: OK, I see it now, the extreme low end has Fermi based cards. Most of the money makers for nVidia are Kepler GPUs (GT640 and up)

It gets a bit confusing after a while.
GT 440 = GT 630
GT 520 = GT 610

and so on...

And then there's the performance comparison that involves even older cards.
You could say GTS 285 > GT 630> GT 430 > Geforce 210

Anyways, rebadging is nothing new for either AMD or Nvidia; a list of such would be interesting I suspect for those whom are trying to find bang for buck when buying used cards.

On the mobile side there was rebadges of Fermi. 600M series was known for having it. I purposely bought a different laptop than I intended to because the one I intended to buy was using rebadged Fermis and most reviews were stating to go for the Keplers even if they weren't as fast.

I think there may have been one rebadge on the lower end desktop lines but nVidia hasn't been as bad as AMD with rebadging. AMD has been doing it every gen and pretty blatant about it.

We don't acknowledge mobile GPUs here. :)

Yeah, I was strictly speaking desktop GPUs, not mobile. When you get into mobile things get truly murky.

The GTx 5xx are just higher-clocked GTX 4xx. So, basically, they are rebadged except for the GTX 560 Ti 384/448 core which is a new GPU based on the Fermi architechture. The GTX 6xx-series is the all-new Kepler series which the GTX 7xx are based on.

Negative ghost rider. GTX 4xx chips were GF100 based, GTX5xx were GF110 based. Complete refresh of Fermi line was performed.

That's true they were officially called GF110 but, for instance, the GTX 560 had the same number of pipes and Cuda cores with just higher clocks. The same 1GB, too.

Still not a rebrand.

thats a very debatable point.

but it does not change the fact that that a 560ti and 470 share the same hardware. nor does it change the fact that the 480 and 570 have the same hardware.

the g92 had 3 refreshes but it was still the same hardware.

much like how the 7900s have become the r9 280s the 7800s became the 270s.

the trickle down effect is a common theme from both sides.

No, G92 had 3 different names, but the same core designation (G92).

GTX 570 is GF110, GTX 480 is GF100, so "like it or not", there was a silicon change, and therefore is different hardware.

GTX 560Ti is GF114, and GTX 470 is GF100. so again, "like it or not" there was silicon changes and therefore is different hardware. Though their core design makeup may be similar, there are still other underlying changes made to the core itself.

True, the 7900s HAVE been rebranded, those ARE old chips being used again in their lineup. Much like the GTX 770, which remains a GK104 like the GTX 680.

g92 g92a g92b where also 3 core name changes....

the 770 and 680 is a more interesting one, am i glad you mentioned them as that is a core not changing its code during a rebrand but gaining features.

460 1gb to 560 (not sure if it was ti or not now tbh) is another one where the core code name changed but the hardware specs did not. re branding the core name is no different than rebranding the card.

same hardware is same...

The GTX 770 was a refresh of the GTX 680.

I would like to know if the GTS 450 was a rebranded 8800GT if anyone can help me settle a dispute.

GTS 450 was GF104, so no. The 400 range of GPUs were all Fermi based.

Not overly sure why this topic tends to get so many threads devoted to it when there are many serviceable databases (including one here at TPU) where the information is readily available.
