why the users are so fixed about cable management?
Well, I can't speak for anyone but myself, but personally it distils down to:
Less disruption of airflow
Less stress on cables and connectors if they're laid out well - including being secured down so that removal or refitting of side panels doesn't snag/pull or put stress on them.
Ease of swapping out hardware components if you haven't got to negotiate a rats nest of clutter.
Reduces the amount of cabling you need to have active (and less cables altogether if using a modular PSU) if you reduce the number of cables you actually use- such as fan hubs, or making your own serial SATA power connectors for hard/optical drives

And of course, it looks tidier. Either a bonus, or a necessity depending on whether you're OCD afflicted.

to improve airflow and look awesome..
Agree with you about tha looks awesome, but remember it's not all about how your Rig looks but about what it's inside of it and it's performance, agree once again when you said airflow, but cable management doesn't count that much when we talk about
Watercooling!!! I have 15 fans set it up, 8 fans outside the case in push and pull, cooling my 480 Rad so nothing to do with cable management, 2 fans in the top of the case cooling my second Rad pushing air outside the case,
and here once again nothing to do with cable management, one in the front pushing air to cool my SSD, and for fans in the right side pushing out air, so nothing about this setup has something to do with cable management!!!!

I don't think anyone here is against good cable management. It just seems like it's good practice to have a clean looking case for optimal airflow like everyone else said.

And this is just my opinion of course, but I don't think you need 15 fans. Seems like a bit overkill for very little benefit if any at all. Also, an SSD doesn't really need to be actively cooled since they generally don't tend to get hot.

I'm still learning the tricks of the trade when it comes to cable management, I make due with how long my cables are and how often I actually pick up my case off the floor to dust it out once in a while.

anal people like to do and talk about anal topics?

it i mean not this/the op :p

it used to be a big issue in truth, now days when cases have more than 1 or 2 fan mounts it is more to show off than anything as the impact of the odd cable here and there on air temp and flow is very marginal at best in most modern case.

Another thing is it can help a lot with making it easier to remove dust, dust tends to fill up the case and congregates around wiring. Then it becomes a dense jungle of flammable material. If you have the cables tucked back a bit it seems to take longer to fill up with crud and its a lot easier to blow the dust out. I run filters and clean out dust regularly but for my friends' machines they usually just build them as fast as possible and they fill up with dust very fast, its a big nuisance with the wiring everywhere and a huge wad of dust and hair stuck around the cables.

I don't do much cable management beyond tucking the wires behind the panel and zip tying the larger bundles, its more of a nuisance if you have to rearrange hardware.

Normaly you get a lot of dust in your case when you have fans pushing air
Inside your case, I just have one fan that is doing this and it's the one in the front of the case, thanks god I don't have too much dust problems!!!

meh, these days people have been obsessed with what the rig looks like on the inside, especially if they have done water cooling, they want it to look clean.

I am very obsessive with the way my systems look. I go as far as to have a color theme with my rig. I used to care only about performance, till the last few years, ive started worrying about aethetics too.

Clean cable management makes the system look clean, and helps airflow. With cases being released today, they pretty much demand good cable management with all the dedicated holes in the motherboard tray and a lot of space behind the tray for routing. etc.

Also makes a rig easier to upgrade and do stuff on if you route the cables right. Instead of having cables all over the place when you are trying to get to the motherboard or something.

I spend about 5-8 hours on cable management for my builds.

Good cable management can be nice for a management and component servicing along with improved airflow, reduced places for dust buildup and improved airflow. Even where you think airflow wouldn't be affected with water cooling, it will be. If there's airflow in the case, you better believe that a rats nest of cables will collect dust from the air moving through them. And while it may only affect a handful of CFM of overall airflow...an improvement is an improvement regardless.

The other benefit I mentioned from good and smart cable management, component replacment can be much easier. Especially mainboard. The way I route cable management to keep mainboard access clean, this helps the onboard heatsinks with room to vent. When you have to find a place to stash a rats nest of wires when you're trying to stuff a mainboard in a case with a tighter fit, you'll be thankful for taking the time to manage the cables wisely. I don't spend more than an hour on cable management on my personal rigs...and half that for customer builds. I do a few basics, like zone bundling, so the cables in the same areas are zip tied and routed together, I place as much behind the MB tray as possible and push users to get 80+ modular PSU's

Maybe it's not something you need or understand, but in the region I live, dust is a common issue along with cheaper cooling solutions (not water cooling), where it's helpful to be easy to access and clean inside of a case and if a service is necessary that there's less time wasted with someone elses or your own mess of being lazy with the cable routing.

If cabe management was a waste, even the OEM's wouldn't do it...their internal case designs have shown for years that routing cables is helpful for cooling and service. Take a look inside a Dell, Lenovo, Gateway, etc....most, if not all built in the last 5-10 years have some sort of cable management solution adapted to their cases. I see no confusion as to why cable management is a solid long and short term set of solutions with a little bit of effort. Those that don't care, don't need to. But all they're doing is creating more work later on. Again this touches on smart cable management, because someone trying too hard to hide all the cables is also going to create more work depending on component to be replaced or if the PSU and cables need replaced. So being smart about it and thinking about how cables should be routed in order for service and "what-if's" and blending that with ensuring fan pathways aren't blocked, that the CPU and GPU area are CLEAR of any obstructions, that you have enough wiggle room in the wires to move them or tuck them out of the way for a component replacement. Just the simple things.

I believe in the utility of cable management first, which even if you focus on that will still provide good overall looks...it won't be perfectionist level, but it'll be very acceptable and not a headache to undo later on.

I don't know what you're on about there. Regardless of the type of cooling, ALL gaming PCs have cables. The parts are all plug n play now, but they're not exactly wireless. You'd have been better off arguing PSU and MB tray design of your case, as THEY have a lot more to do with cable clutter than your cooling does.

I know full well what you're saying. You're assuming just because you have rads you need not worry about airflow, but you couldn't be more wrong. Cable clutter can cause turbulence. Turbulence not only impedes airflow, it can make air (and therefore dust) pool and swirl in places.

Rads are actually pretty sensitive to dust buildup AND poor airflow, and the more you have to clean them, the more you risk bending their paper thin fins. Rads perform best when they are dialed in with fans that have proper static pressure for their fin design and work load, and they tend to like that pressure to be consistent and steady.

Even if you have ALL your rads setup with intake fans on the outside of the case, that air still has to exhaust somewhere, so it still matters how good your airflow is inside the case. There's no case that isn't affected by clutter. The only exception is open bench testing "cases", but they're not really enclosures per se.

I used to care about aesthetics too but in the last few years I'm just happy when everything works like it should. Will try water cooling once just so I can say I tried that as well ()nothing too fancy just the basics). A good cable management only helps if you don't have a lot of room behind the mobo and when cleaning dust. Does not improve airflow unless you have a whole jungle of cables.

Once i did my 2nd build, thats when i got pretty good with it. I typically spend a minimum of 2 days(obviously only a few hours each day) on my own builds. People give me shit about it, but i typically take my time, do it all right. Im a perfectionist. I get pretty OCD about my systems.

Once i did my 2nd build, thats when i got pretty good with it. I typically spend a minimum of 2 days(obviously only a few hours each day) on my own builds. People give me shit about it, but i typically take my time, do it all right. Im a perfectionist. I get pretty OCD about my systems.

here its a pic of my Rig

Yep, that coukd be cleaned up for sure. utilize the space behind the motherboard tray and side panel more, and figure out ways to cut down on cables used.

And you have quite the overkill of rads. You could run a single 360 in the top of that case, and it would look a lot better.

Well moving the wires from that bottom area below the HDD would probably help just to help that fan push air into the case

Yep, god if only I had his system in my hands right now. Its like a blank canvas of cables. So many different ways that it could be cleaned up.

I owned a 932 HAF for few years too. Had one of the launch gray interior ones, I took out all the rivets and painted the interior black with some black engine enamel one summer, build my Core i7 920, Evga X58 Classified and GTX260 SLI rig into it.

Here it is actually, but when I got a 5870.

Yeah but the difference between that rig and mine it's that your it's air cooled and there's not that much cables around and it's easy to do a cable management but I have many cables because I have, two fans control, the pump, some lights and more, so more stuffs and more cables

That system is PC porn for my eyes. Great job on the painting of the case.

You could move the blue fan cables above the memory cooler to the back of the motherboard and maybe make some sort of a shroud like the HAF XM has and hide all the unused cables there..

Excess wires coming off of the PSU should be placed behind the mobo tray. Same with those fan wires up top.

Even when I had cases that could be properly managed I never really bothered. I did hide what could easily be hidden, but the ocd cleanness I could never care about. I've always hated windowed cases and lights and stuff though. A black box where it's out of the way, nothing more.
