no, Nvidia needs to re-design Maxwell to run on 28nm while it was designed for 20nm, u think it would be easy? properly not bcs it's complicated and i am no engineer but i will assume it not easy plus not what Nvidia has hoped for. (Sry i used the work rebuild in my previous post when they actually need to re-design Maxwell.)

This is also why i more or else will properly go GTX 780 if not used GTX 780 Ti is i can get one at a good price later this year.

Galaxy are relatively cheap low budget nasty options. I'd never recommend a Galaxy to anyone other than somebody who has no clue about overclocking, and never want to overclock. They're designed to run as is, don't expect any magic from them. They're also not so great in terms of coolers.

Unless you're buying a HOF edition, don't expect any miracles. It's the only version UK retailers bother stocking.

i think the 280x series was just a HD 7970 rebrand if i remember correct.

but srsly don't drop the dream of the GTX 770 if u don't wanna go GTX 780, just keep ur looks out, do u need it right here and now or u can wait until a good offer comes around?

Yeah, all these "R" ones are basically re-branded from the 7000 series.
Well, it's not urgent, only the discount on the Galaxy got me itchy

Well to give you some idea of how long it "could" be, 3 years after DX10 was introduced 80% of all new games were still DX9, it did get a bit better I think when 10 moved on to 11.

Not exactly true, the 280X and down are rebrands. The R9 290 and R9 290X are actually new cards for this generation, but they are the only truly new cards for this generation.

Also regarding the 280x. I have a pair of Asus R9 280x DC2 TOPs. And while they are amazing quality or seem to be. Oil has leaked out of one of the fans (I think it is from a fan) and the fan's bearing is busted I think. Taking it to the repair centre in the morning. They overclock pretty well for 280xs though but the 780 I also have overclocks like a crazy beast. Also they are noisier than the rev2.0 gigabyte 280x windforce but quieter than the rev1.0 windforce fyi - from what I have tested.

MSI Gaming has the same issue, too much oil in the bearings gets leaked and then causes the fans to prematurely die. MSI claim they've fixed it, obviously it wasn't a isolated issue.

I love my 770, I can run Metro Last Light maxed out at 1080P and it looks fantastic. Mine runs at 1254 core 1800 mem from the factory.

For $320 its a steal for the performance it gives. The only limiting factory might be the 2GB of memory but I haven't come close to using it up even in BF4. 256 bit memory interface is also a limiter.

Proof please, with 337 nvidia drivers. In many titles 770 outperforming even 290, 7970 not shown up. A specially if we talking about F2P, where Nvidia gtx 770 destroying 290x.

Nay in bf4 with new drivers gtx 770 is a Noble.

BF4 supports mantle which provides a tasty boost on AMD cards when enabled. I'd lean toward the 280x over the 770 tbh.

I'd choose the windforce version from Gigabyte. Just be sure to get a rev2.0 version as it is way quieter than the rev1.0

And since when was Skyrim online gaming? You just sidelined your own point. It's also worth noting WoW is slightly more CPU orientated on Ultra settings.

EDIT: Oh, and none of those games you mentioned are F2P.
EDIT: Oh and Starcraft II is CPU limited also

The price/performance is important of course, but actual FPS numbers and frame latency is more important. From what I'm seeing, the 280X does trade blows with the 770 AND is a LOT cheaper - if you compare just the Asus DCIIs. I'm re-downloading some review videos which didn't say (if memory serves) much good things about the 280/290 etc when they first came out.

280X is just a 7970, just read reviews for those. Regarding 290 and 290X's, the reviews were bad because the reference coolers were terrifyingly bad. AIB cards for the 290's deal with all of that. That's not to say that certain coolers don't have their own little problems. One of my favourite looking cards was the white 770 back in the day.

Evaluate your budget, check the maximum amount you're willing to spend, and buy the card that gets the most FPS in the games you play the most. Then buy it. That's what I did...

My 780 is running 1201 core on a 1440p monitor. The framerate is good, but the 290X gets better scores when overclocked (and isn't voltage locked, hee hee)
