Don't get that SSD. There are better performers for the same price. There's been a lot of talk the past six months or so about Kingston doing a switch on RAM type from synchronous to asynchronous and performance really suffered.

PNY XLR8 120GB for $59.99

Good, cheap, relatively fast. As far as a cooler goes, I have an FX-6300 @ 4.2 ghz and I have this one slapped on it - Logisys (Deepcool) Ice Wind. I bought it because it has a built-in AMD clip so installing it takes like two minutes. Works pretty well - Prime95 in an average mid-tower case stays in the high 40s and in the low 40s while gaming with the fan on auto. The fan is very quiet to 1200 RPM, above that it gets loud quickly. The CoolerMaster 212 Evo is a great choice of course - again the only reason I got mine it was so stinking easy to install (and it was on sale for $24 at the time).

It's $30 with $1 shipping, and it's cute. I'm looking to OC around that 4-4.2 area. What games do you play?

Just older stuff since I bought it - Fallout 3/New Vegas, Skyrim, Far Cry Blood Dragon, Batman AC, etc... Still, I think they stress it enough to be representative of its cooling. Its not the best in the world - probably about like a Hyper 212 Plus both in performance and quiet. That built in AMD clip is what sold me (and its situated so I could point it to exhaust out the rear). The fan on it is average quiet for a PWM 1500 RPM. It is rubberized too so you don't have to worry about it rattling against the heatsink. Get tired of fiddling with coolers - it was nice just to bolt it on the way the stock fan does.

Prime95. It sat just under 50c (although the PWM fan did ramp up to almost 1400 RPM). This was a few months ago when it was cooler though. Probably go up a few more degrees now.

Having a look at the Deepcool Ice Wind review on Frostytech, it seems to trade blows with the Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO. One good thing I noticed is that similar to the Hyper 212, the Deepcool one also has the copper heatpipes touching the CPU, which is a good option for AMD based CPUs. In terms of performance, at high fan speeds, the Hyper 212 is cooler but a bit noisier, and the Deepcool is a few degrees hotter but a few decibels quieter. At lower fan speeds, the Hyper 212 is quieter but a little bit hotter, whereas the Deepcool is louder but cooler by a few degrees. So basically they're very similar, and if you're concerned about installation, the Deepcool is much easier to install.

It depends on whether you prefer lower thermals or quieter fans, and at what load (high fan speed = heavier load). I can't find any information about what thermals/noise is like when its overclocked, but the Hyper 212 is notorious for its great overclocking performance. Your money, your call.

I care about it being cool. I've ramped my GPU fans up to the point that it sounds like a jet taking off in my case. Noise isn't an issue.

I don't understand why your set up runs so warm. I have three PCs (all AMD - two Phenom IIs and one FX) in various states of overclock and none of them run so hot I have to keep anything but the case fans on full speed (and that's because they're not PWM). One of them is in a ten year old Antec case with definitely no better cooler than the Sonata.

Well.. The issue is that the current case I'm using is some tinyass HP case. ( This ) I should be getting my new RAM in the next 3-5 days or so. I'll put up some temps then.

My baby sister once grabbed my Corsair M60 and started smashing it on my V5 Cyborg keyboard. She was 1. Good times, huh?

Coolermaster 212's go for $14 on ebay according to "sold listings", just make sure it has the bracket. It's kind of hard to mess up that style cooler, you can always relap the base and zip tie the fans. The 212's wiggle though, thats my one issue with that cooler. I've installed 3 of them so far and they all wiggle.

If you don't mind the noise you can snag some powerful fans like Nidec BetaV or Deltas off ebay for pretty cheap to supercharge anything (the cpu cooler and/or the antec case). Make sure its 12v. You might have to cut the oem plug off and solder a fan plug on, which is pretty easy.

The Antec Sonata III 500 might be a really fun case to mod if you have a dremel. A side fan would be a start.

I'm actually thinking of doing that. I know some people with the tools and I was thinking of putting in top and side fans. As well as making the front fan give out more air.

Just my two cents. There are better coolers then the CM212. But will cost you double. I favorite budgt case. Fractal Define R4
