Windows Update (Win 7 vs Win 8.1)

I'm thinking about update my Windows from 7 to 8.1. It's worth? 8.1 is a good Win? I heard that he have a problems with compatibility and some software. Is that true? And what about interface? This MetroUI(or something like this) is ugly. Can I delete this small windows and back to menu from 7?

Yes there is software to get back your start menu in windows 8.1 and there is software for running gadgets in windows 8.1.
There is still a "normal" desktop and since "Update 1" you can close every app from the Metro UI with a "X". Personally I prefer windows 7.

I did the update about 6 months ago.. I love it! It takes some getting use to tho.
Never had driver/software issues. All my old software/games work fine.

I've got 8.1 running on one of my rigs, and I like it now. It took some getting used to, but once I bought Start8 it operates and looks like W7. However, it is faster, uses a smaller footprint than 7, and file transfers are faster. There's alot to like. Additionally, I've not come accross a game yet that won't run on it, including my classic favorite, RTW from 2004.

On top of that, I'm about to go 8.1 on my main system as well, because as I found out the other day upgrading my HTPC and reinstalling W7, we've reached the point on W7 that it's just not worth it reinstalling. I had near 180 updates to download, just since SP1! And that's not counting if you have something like Office, which adds alot more!

Maybe I should try 8.1 preview.
But what are the main changes in 8.1?

And, W 8.1 is much faster then 7?

If you're running W7 there's really no reason to upgrade unless you're using an FX CPU and even that benefit is somewhat marginal:

BOINC benchmark. Single thread.

If you're building a new rig, then yes, by all means W8.1 is fine. If you don't like the interface there's always Classic Shell.

I tried win8.1 , feel same speed like win7, but I did not like visual, Metro, colors, it feel like not finished, well I put win 7 back and go on until 9...

The info Verge provided is wrong. Update 2 won't receive Start menu, yet it might come back in next major Windows release.
