Nvidia GT650M FPS drop

Running on a Lenovo Y400 laptop with 8gb RAM. Starting recently, I am experiencing a drop in performance probably because of overheating.

Card spec:

Running DotA 2(in game FPS drops to as low as 12-25):

Never overclocked it, and have recently reapplied thermal paste and cleaned the heat sink(still doesn't fix the problem).

I can't even play games I used to be able to play. Need some help here~

103 degrees celsius on gpu core even after thermal paste is reaplied means that cooler has its airways blocked or the fan is dying. Bad fan is something you would notice, so I guess cleaning the heatsink with a can of pressurized air is in order.

I cleaned the fan last month and it was working fine, blowing out hot air tho. D= I have to replace it?
When I turn the game off, the temp drops back to 40-50ish celsius in a few minutes.

It's summer, I'd say ambient temp is over 30 C if idles are at 40-50 C. Gaming on laptops is a bitch especially in summer. Best you can do is try to ensure tight contact between heatpipe and gpu, good paste, clean heatsink and air conditioning.

laptops arent meant for heavy gaming. the heat only kills it.
get a cooling pad for now.

I am using a cooling pad, a cooler master one. The problem is, I can't play games I used to be able to play. (I could play farcry3 with maxed settings, but now I get like 10fps, even on cinematics)

am i correct to assume that you dont have vsync in dota?

i dont see how 197mb 1v can result in 103 degrees , something is horribly wrong... yet you feel the hot air correctly come out? could the sensor be covered in dust, causing it to misread?

I do have vsync on in Dota2 and set to adaptive in Nvidia control panel.

I'm pretty sure the sensor is accurate because my computer started blacking out when it gets really hot.

I set the game to the lowest setting/or played a low GPU usage game and yet the mem clock goes to max and it heats up to 103c.

clearly, you need to take it apart and re-grease it again. somethings gone wrong.

He probably needs shims sometimes when you take them apart the board can suddenly warp from the release of tension
check the clearances and contact of the cooler and check the board for any slight warping
use shims if needed and tighten in a two-stage cross pattern

definitely possible in a laptop. thats why i avoid regreasing them unless absolutely neccesary.

especially if they have been run hot for hours at a time *cough gaming load cough*
he might be-able to get away with simply re-pasting and going slower when reassembling taking care to work in a multi stage cross pattern else he might have some shimming and genital persuasion todo

yep. something must have gone wrong last time.

yep 103c is not good the performance loss is the thermal protection kicking in to prevent damage if you ignore the issue eventually you will burn it up
edit: the backplates don't seem all that beefy odds are something is tweaked

again make sure when you take things apart or put them back together that you work in a cross pattern NOT a circle this is CRITICAL on PCB's that are suspect of being warped also don't undo all the screws at the same time take 1 out of the gpu and one from the cpu and repeat until all the screws are removed do the reverse for reassembly
